An idea of the amount of steel

from the fact that these seventy
men unlovd an average of fifty-
two cars a day, eight to ten of
which are loaded with steel. The I
11265.00 car of steel runs from 60.000 to I
100,000 pounds. It is estimated
| by the men in charge, that the
1 crew on the steel reciving dock
126.54 j a|one will remove 100,000 pounds
3238.46 of gteel from a car every hour,
and k:ep it np all day.
Recently, a grand total of
1.750,000 pounbs of steel and
castings was unloabed in nine
hours. The plant of the Ford
Motor company is now consum-
ing shark plugs-a small but
necessary mechaneal tidbit—at
the rate of two carloads a month.

While the publlc.and the aut«
mobile world in particular, is
watching with interest the Ford
Motor Company's progress to-
ward an aaual output of 300.000
motor cars, little attention is
paid to the great amount of raw
materal which arrives at the
factory every day.
Steel is qnlte natural the most
importtnt single item, and it is
estimated that 125,500 tons of
steel, heat treated by Ford pro-
duction of Ford cars. This does
not include iron casting.
