HOW CHILDREN GROW
Children grow by nourishment—not
overloaded stomachs or rich lamia bat
qualities that are readily converted Into
life-sustaining blood; too often their
digestive powers cannot procure these
qualities from Ordinary foods which results
in weakness. dullness and sickness.
If vour children are under-sixe, under*
weight, cstch cold easily, are languid,
backward, pale or frail, give them Scott's
Bmulsion which is pure medicinal nourish-
ment. It sharpens the appetite, builds
healthy flesh, firm muacles and active
brsins. Scott's is growing-fuoti for
children. Refuse alcoholic substitute!.

FELT SHE HA0 BEEN FAMILIAR
Horrible Discovery by Mrs. Flint Had
Considerably Disturbed Har
Composure.
Fort Smith Is the main topic of dlo-
cuaalon In Claremore this week, so
if we digress a little and use consid-
erable space to that topic this week
we are escusable, especially as this
paper aeems to l e the only one in
the territory that has discovered this
particular piece of news. Besides
what la already known there seems
to be much more of u different char-
acter that has not yet been brought
to light. It is said that Claremore
haa been supplying the neighboring
territory for some time, whether by
underground route is not known here.
Wagons would haul the boose to the
suburb* and autos would come from
neighboring cities and load up. Var-
ious waya are alleged to have been
used to get the liquor in. and tin
men arrested and uuder Kort Smith
bond are not accused of handling all
that haa come In. There are'others
who are supposed to be quaking in
their boots.
Ellen Terry, the famoua English
actreas, tella thia story:
"Mra. Hint came home from a call
one day In auch a dlaturbed condition
that it waa evident that tears were
nut far In the background. Her hua-
band gased at her Inquiringly for a
moment but she inade haste to ex

"Major" Isn't his tittle at all. 'Major'

" Why. sure It la. I've always
known that. What la there so mortl-

' Nothing.' Mra. Flint answered
with h groan, 'only that I've been
calling hi in "Major" every time I've

We have received many compli-

that the Messenger is not afraid to
print the news, even if it Is news
which does not reflect credit on souu*
of our "prominent business men" as
Rutherford would remark. We do
not claim any especial amount of
nerve to print the news. We do not
make the news, and the man who
does make It la the one who needH
th« nerve. Also only one man who
came In to get a copy of the paper
during the past week really appreci-
ated the news to the extent that lie
laid down a dollar to subscribe so lie
could get the news regularly. Many
who road It and who are reading thu
waak'a paper borrowed it from a
neighbor or came to this oftu e and
bammed a copy. There's nerve for
you. It's one chance out of three
that you do not pay for this pape

State oC Okla*"""' County of Reg-
Oklahoma City, Okla., July 2—Af-
ter making the maximum constitu-
tional levy of 3 1-2 mills for ad val-
orem taxes, and relying upon the in-
direct taxes to produce a million dol-
lars, the Democratic administration
In Oklahoma Is confronted with the
danger of not having enough money
by $800,000 or (900,000 to run the
State government for the fiscal year
ending June 30. 1914. The legislative
appropriation for 1914 was $3,134,
240.74. The January and April tax
collection amounted to $2,028,970.73.
On June 24 there were approximate-
ly $700,000 worth of outstanding and
unpaid warrants, to which must bo
added sbout $270,000 In warrants
that will have been registered by
the end of the fiscal year, making
a total of $970,000. It is estimated
that ten per cent, or $213,000 la ad
valorem tuxes, and $400,000 In Indi
rect taxes will not be collected. This
will make the total liabilities $1,583,
000, to be paid from $3S7.939.75 cash
on hand. June 24. and the remain
ing $1,105,270.01 of the general ap-
propriation, leaving a probable def
N it of $12^1,000. But many State In
stitutions and departments continue
spending money after they have ex-
hausted their approprlatlona, aa may
be Judged by the fact that the 1913
deficiency appropriations amounted
to about $750,000. There Is nothing
to Indicate that the deficiency will
be smaller this year. Accordingly,
taxpayers ultimately may have to pay
nearly a million dollars more than the
$3,134,210.74 that was appropriated.
