cluding n larger ice box and a sani-
tary refrigerator display counter for
the market Work of Installing the
fixtures has been dene at nights to
avoid interference with tirade in day

New fixtures and display oases
will be installed throughout the store
soon This work will ha done little
at a time at nights and the public
will hardly notice the interference
and changes until completed
More capacity and greater con-
venience are the dominating features

Lions Club
Fred Culver jr was the headliner
at the weekly noonday luncheon of
the Lions Chib on Friday when be
entertained the club members with
baritone selections that will be used

Rev Hamblen gave a report of the
Benevolent work and funds raised
stating that encouraging progress

JOIN ARMY OF UNEMPLOYED
ARDMORE — As an economy mea-
sure the bailiffs of the district court
who ordinarily draw regular pay
throughout toe entire year have
been discharged and wUL draw sal-
ary only when Jury dockets are on
trial The move will mean the sav-
ing of nearly 9p0 flop jury tidal of
cases between the present date and
the opening of the fiscal year In

MURRAY INAUGURATED
AS NINTH GOVERNOR
W- H Murray who was inaug-
urated governor of Oklahoma Mon-
day Jan 12 Is the ninth man to
bold that office since - statehood
came in 1907 C N Haskell having
been the first man to assume the
reins of state as an elective governor
of Oklahoma
The state can claim a record that
all of the eight of the men who pre-
ceded Murray are living and enjoy-
ing good health Bach oonitinuee to
maintain an active interest In state
affairs
Haskell who lives at Muskogee Is

campaign he supported Murray who
was nominated for governor and C
J Wrigbtamsa who was defeated for
United States senator so his politi-
cal prestige remains in question Re-

possible candidate for congressman
at large In 1932
Lee Cruoe the man who suooeeded
Haskell by defeating Murray In 1910
lives at Ardmore as a retired capital-
list and spends a part of his time in
Arizona and California He was an
unsuccessful candidate for the sen-
atorship in the primaries of 1930
Robert L Williams third gover-
nor of Oklahoma stepped from that
office into 'the position of United
States district judge for the eastern
district of Oklahoma a position he
wiU hold far life
Williams has come to be regarded
as the state’s oracla From the fed-
eral bench be looks at life and ad-
vises the rest of the world bow to
live discussing freely pending legis-
lation styles end fashions the self-
ishness of humanity and the evil of
the present hour He was followed
In the gubernatorial chair by J B A
Robertson Chandler Williams came
to Oklahoma City from Durant
Robertson bad a stormy career but
defeated an impeachment movement
and rdinguislhed his office at the
end of his term still challenging his
foes to do their worst In 1926 and

has made down in the tropicals of
the southern Republic on like out-
ings Mr Jennings goes with a party
of bankers and oil men from Ard-
more acid Oklahoma City who hive
memberships in a bunting dub in
the Carmel mountains located about
350 miles below the American bor-
der Wild game such as turkey deer
and mountain goats are In abund-
ance through that region including
the fiercer tribes of lions etc
which are not the particular quest
of the exposition
The party who make this trek an-
nually always bring home plenty of
deer meat and it will be remembered
that Al brought borne deer meat
last year which be said he killed and
as we were not with toe exposition
took his word for his prowess as a
big gaAe hunter Besides hie is our
banker and we of necessity must
agree wlt him
The (Lions Club members and other
good friends of Mr Jennings are
getting their appetites worked up
for a deer feast along about the last
of the month when toe party re-
turn from their exposition

received a new coat of paint this
week which helps the look of this
establishment making the place more
inviting The interior was recently

Walton maintains a legal residence
at Oklahoma City but since 1924
has spent much of his time in Texas
where he Is engaged in the oil busi-

candidate tor mayor of Oklahoma

Ed Trapp served out the remain-
ing three years and three months
of the Walton term when he was
held ineligible to -succeed himself by
the state supreme court Hie lives at
Oklahoma City and is in the bond
and investment business He was
one of Murrays rivals in the recent
primary campaign Trapp was fol-
lowed in office by Henry S Johns-
ton Perry like Murray a member
of the constitutional convention and
the first legislature
Governor Johnston had a trouble-
some time during his carrier at the
statehouse and was booted out1 of his

Holloway the lieutenant governor
being called to rule Johnston re-
sumed practice of law at Perry At
the moment he is regarded a poss-

Reports published In Sunday news-
papers that Heaidton had three
hundred CRses of frail pox were
greatly over estimated according to
'to-cal school authorities and medical
practionicers
There have been a number of
small pox cases in Heaidton and vic-
inity possibly 25 to 50 but fortu-
nately practically all have been in
light form consequently no deaths
or serious illness has prevailed ex-
cept in possibly one or two cases
There were not sufficient oases or
of severity enough to warrant the
closing of the schools or other pub-
lic gatherings
A large majrity of the citizenship
wera Immune from the small pox
through former vaccinations while
dozens immediately went to their
local physician and were vaccinated
The epidemic shows signs of sub-
siding as no new cases are being re-
ported ricw With oaTeful quaranteen
regulations enforced the epidemic
should soon pass without any ser-
ious results

Oath Of Office
The District and County Judges
were administered the oath of office
at Ardmore on Monady as follow®:
John B Ogden district judge
winding up a term in that office
officially administered oath of off-
ice to Charles N Champion who be-
came county judge
Judge Champion then in office
fOrrmaly pledged Ogden and the dis-
trict judge began his second term
as presiding judge of the county’s
higest court
The ceremony was brief and wit-
nessed by only a handful of spec-
tators and court attaches

duties Miss Lucille Cathey who has
served as secretary to Arthur Gru-
nert retiring judge continues in the
same capacity in the office
Grunert who leaves the county

ness visitor in toe city Friday Mr
Jones formerly lived here moving
bo the city where he operates a large
number of trucks and handles a
large amount of hauling work for
the oil industry and just now has the
contract tor transporting machinery
for a bunch of booster stations on a
large gas line that is being built
into Chicago The company handles
Soane very heavy machinery and
have large specially built eight-
wheel wagons for this heavy duty
work Some of the pieces on this
booster stations being handled weigh
as much as twenty four tons Mr
Jones stated
Windsor Hotel Under
New Management
Mr and Mrs J D Martin who
built and operated toe New Windsor
hotel until its saile about a year ago
have returned from New Mexico and
will manage this popular bostelery
for the present or possibly perma-
nent Recent sales of the hotel necessi-
tated a change in management and
Mr and Mrs Martin were secured
to attend1 toe duties Their many
friends are glad to welcome them
back to Heaidton
Mr and Mrs Busby who have
managed toe Windsor since its sale
about a year ago left last of the
week for a abort visit with relatives
in Sherman Texas before returning
to Wichita Kansas their former
home Mr and (Mrs Busby were live
wires and town boosters and their
absence will be keenly missed from
our city but their many friends

job runs into large figures and will

some large contracts in recent
months and is probably one of the
largest Toad and dirt contractors in
the state He has & large quantity
of the latest machinery and equip-

Grocery came hear being crushed to
death beneath a falling ice box
early Monday morning This firm is
installing new fixtures and in put-
ting up the big ice box that came
in sections one heavy piecie weighing
about six hundred pounds when being
hoisted into position on top of toe
box fell striking Mr More cutting
two severe gashes on his head and
others on his left arm and toot
Jack was able to be back at the
store in a few hours but is pretty
sore from his experience

Dan Weldon has bad his left hand
all bandaged up for about a month
and while he has told us the cause
of it we don’t recall whether he said
it wias left handed gout or blood
poison anyway Dan says that he
can’t take a satisfactory bath be-
cause he can't reach his hack and
now he is issuing an SOd to the
High Eiohool boys to volunteer to
give him his backbone massage
In event that you didn't see this
in O O McIntyres stuff a few days
ago it bears telling McIntyre was
writing about similes and he said
about the best one he ever beard
was about on crook speaking of
another and said "Dat guy la as

tune of 150 to S3 we don't feel like
writing a nice long story although
we the local Post are going to give
that bunch of “Russling Rookies” a
banquet that will be the feast of
their lives in the near future and
then we will give them a nice write
up about that
