Where Sleep the True and
Biavel
It is fitting at thi* time that
we pay tribute in orations, verse,
flags and floorers and keep for-
ver green ttffc memory of those
valient 'heroes who sacrificed
their lives upon th« teodwtry's
alter that liberty might not per-
ish and who now repose in pub-
lic momumeqts and in both na-
tional and local cemeteries, when
at the present moment thousands
of Columbia's bravest defenders
are rushing to the stanuard with
the settled ronviotion that many
may not survive, but with a firm
resolution that "Old Glory shall
be vindicated and placed in the
fore front upon the field of honor
trust that the mighty ruler of
nations shsll see'fit to crown
their arms who shall cum-
ulate their illustrious deeds with
the living wreath of immortal
victory.
Strew bright garlands o'er each
grave,
Where they sleep the true and
brave,
Those who fought for freedom's
right
Thro' the gloom of slavery's
night,
Kought and died and now repose
'Neath the star of dawn that
glows,
i Let the flag that freeman bear,
Crown their resting places here,
Strew with flowers each Hero's
mound,
Freedom's consecrated ground,
Where they sleep the immortal
dead
Who their life blood gladly shed
While the field all crimson,d o'er
Shudder'd at the cannon's roar,
For the slaves they render'd free
Spread the flowers of memory.
Garland deep each battlefield
Where our brave the flag did
shield.
Where the iron trumpet raged,
Where the conflict 6erce was
waged,
And where victory crown'd their
csnse
With the Nation's great ap-
plause.
Strew bright garlands o'er each
grave
Where they sleep* the true and
brave.
