Letter from James Butler
K C Mo Feb 4 1904
S T Davis Ames Okla
Dear Sir and Comrade: —
Owing to the fact that the or-
ganization fund and the subscrip-
tion to official paper stand in the
way of placing stock and is un-
satisfactory to many who desire
to become stockholders we have
therefore discontinued the same
and desire that clause stricken
out of all subscription blanks now
in circulation It will be striken
out of all such blanks sent out by
our association in the future Do
not exact further payment to the
fund referred to above by those
who have already subscribed to
blanks in circulation We trust
you will push subscriptions to the
capital stock of the Farmers Co
Operative Shipping association
and never let up until every far-
mer at your station is a stockhol-
der Are farmers preparing to or-
ganize at any of the stations near
you? If so kindly give me the
names of those who are taking the
lead together with the post office
address of each
Please read this ' letter to the
stockholders of your local so
that they may be informed re
garding its contents All wS
need to do is to be firm and push
forward on the plan that has ' al
ready brought success in the way
of better prices at- the local sta-
tions and has brought to the as-
sociation a profitable business
that in a short time will comment
the respect of the business world
-Do not get discouraged if some
of our friends desert us ' Every
great movement has had its trait-
ors and ours is no exception Be
vigilant and loyal to the funda-
mental principles and plan of our
company Study and consider
well the motives of those who
attack the plan of the Farmers
Co-Operative Shipping Associa-
ation All manner of attempts
have been and will be made to
divert it from its original pur-
pose — that of securing equity and
fair treatment in the haziness
world for the agricultural class
Do not give them aid or encour-
agement Any attempt to side-
track the original plan and pur-
pose of the Farmers Co-Operative
Shipping association or to divert
it to the interests of any other or-
ganization or industry will result
in a fight and in this way the en-
emy hopes to destroy the useful-
ness of our association Those
who aim to prevent further
growth and to destroy our associ-
ation will seek to divide its stock-
holders as a means to accomplish
their end' There is no danger if
our stockholders stand firm and
loyal to their association and
their own interests:11- Stand firmly'
together and success is assured
Very truly yours
James Butler
