MARKET REPORT.
•i
• TWMPOOBD.
Kansas City Stock Yards.
December 20, 1915.
The cattle market after Mon>
day last week showed declines of
15 to 35 cents oh the various
classes. Stockers and feeders
lost their gain of the first of the
week, especially feeders, which
found slow sale. Receipts today
are 15000 head, ai.d the market
is strong on nil classes. A targe
share of the supply is stockers
and feeders, beef grades beiu^;
relatively scarce. and good
to choice finished cattle entirely
lacking. A drov«i of -diort ted
middle class steers weighing
1200 lbs. was put up by a packer
at $6.65, and good quality short j
fed steers, some of them good
weights, sell at $7 $7.75, pretty
high grade steers being required
to get above $8. Some Panhan-
dle fed steers sold at $7.70 today.
Cows bring $5.25 to $6.25 in
most cases, bulls $5 25 to $6,
veals $8 to $'>.25. Stockers and
feeders are not selling quite as
brisk today, although some year-
lings steers brought $8 Gener-
ally speaking, well bred thin;
steer*, in all weights from 600
to 1150 lbs. sell around $6 65,
while plain stockers good colors
and good doers, sell at $5.50 to
$6.00. The sentiment prevails
here that beef cattle will be
plentiful through the winter,;
and also during (he grass season'
next summer. Breeding stock'
remains firm, well bred light j
younjj cows selling at $5.25 to|
$5 60, heiteis at $5 .75 o $7.50,
including the fancy kiud.
Hogs arrived to the number of
161)00 head today, which in-
cluded nearly 8000 brought in
by packers from South St. Paul
and Sioux City, for slaughter in
plants here. The market opened
steady, but the broad demand
that has featured the trade
recently asserted itself, and the
close was 5 higher, a great
many hogs selling at the top,
.60, bu k of sales$6.30to$6.<0.
A feature w.ts some Minnesota
hogs, 150 lbs. average, at $6 50
and Minnesota pigs $5 50.
Heavy supplies of hogs arriving
at the Northern markets partic-
ularly, but killers' actions dur-
ing the past week, during which
time the market, has made small
net change, denote that they
consider them well worth pres-
ent prices.

Oklahoma City, Dec. 15.—The

attacked by the Columbia-
Knickerbocker Trust Company,

against the county clerk of
Dewey County, to prevent him
from collecting the tax imposed
upon the $31,000,000 mortgage
tiled by the Kansas City, Mexico
and Orient railroad and which is
held by the plaintiff-company,

ptded in the interests of the ser- Idown by the state supreme court

U. S. Civil Service Commission.
Tuesday.
The case was appealed fiom
the district court of Dewey
County, atld sought to have the
mortgage tax law declared un-
constitutional because of alleged
conflict with the statutes which
state that all property which
may be taxed ad valorem, shall
be assessed for taxation at its
fair cash value, and provide that
taxes shall be uniform upon the
same class of subjects.
The supreme court held that
the law does not conflict with
either of the above measures,
that it was enacted by the legis-
lature which has full authority
to enact taxation measures.
Many thousands of dollars, rep-
resenting -the fees due various
counties, accruing from the fil-
ing of this huge mortgage, will
bow be paid to the various
county clerks.
