The Western Oklahoma Chamber of
Commerce has received a hundred
per cent endorsement from Shattuck
backed by memberships
Starting with a membership of 7
the roll was Increased to 106 members
at the present time More are Join-
ing and It is expected the roll may
reach nearly double that amount
According to the committee on so-
licitations report 612000 has been
raised on dues and fees for the coming
year

was named chairman of the fifth dis-
trict road planning group at the dis-
trict at Woodward Last Friday This
district is composed of organizations
holding membership in he Western
Oklahoma Chamber ofCommerce which
are Ellis Dewey Woodward and Har-
per counties

elected as vice-chairman and Stanley

state and federal govemmnt by the re-
gional conference for an extensive
highway construction program in the

At Lions Club
The Lions Club will meet next Fri
day night sponsoring a Father and
Sons National week
In this event Fathers will take their
son or ome son who has no father
to attend a special program and ban
quet
The program committee of the Lions
club are preparing a very special pro-
gram for the occasion and are Invit-
ing Fathers and Sons to attend They
ask that those expecting to attend
notify the secretary Lion Porter that
they make reservation stating the num-
ber of plates which are fifty cents

He is a poultry judge with a national
reputation and at present is engaged
to judge some of the best shows In and
out of the state
He is one of the two judges selected
to judge the state show at Alva this
year He is one of the Judges at the
Western District Oklahoma show the
past two years
He has Judged three former shows
at the same place He has judged one
show eight different times in 9 years
He served two years as one of the
board of Directors of the Oklahoma
Poultry Improvement Association
He does inspection work for the
largest hatchery in the state also
several other hatcheries
He has been nominated for president
of state Poultry Federation this
coming election
His oldest son was Champion Poultry
Club boy of the state 2 years 1925-20
He is always ready to lay aside his
own work to help the other fellow with
his poultry trouble and advice any
way he can
He is known as “Ward the Chicken
Man”

tloh with the forthcoming presenta-
tion of Its new straight eight models
for 1932 The contest Is to begin the
day the new cars appear which is
next Saturday Nov 14 and continue
until midnight Dec 14 1931
The new cars will be on display on
the sales floor of the Buick Garage
according to “Jess” Bussard Manager
The prizes in the contest which Is
being announced through newspaper
and magazine advertising and over
the radio tonight are to be awarded
for the best answers to the question:

YEAR TO BE AT WOODWARD
Legion meeting of the 8th Distract
was held at Capron last Thursday
An all day business session was held
The business session was dispensed
with in the forenoon The afternoon
session was given over to the social
part of the meeting

mander of the American Legion was
master of ceremonies
In the evening a banquet and dance
was enjoyed
The meeting next year will be held
at Woodward
Several Legion members from here
attended the meeting Including Capt
Franc Wyatt who made a very inter-
esting talk

Mrs W G Grimes of Ames Okla
has been spending the past week visit-
ing her son-in-law and daughter Mr
and Mrs Wayne Procter of this city
Mrs Procter has gone to take her
mother to her home and will return
this week
Mr and Mrs Floyd Stout and little
son Arley of near Higgins were in the
city Monday consulting with the doctor
Arley recently underwent an operation
at the Shattuck Hospital and Is re-
ported to be doing nicely

Achievement Day
Program For 4H
Saturday At Gage
The annual Achievement Day Pro-
gram for the 4-H Club members of
Ellis County will be held on Satur-
day November 14th In the Legion
Hut at Gage beginning at 10:30 The
morning session will consist of re-
creation in the form of games songs
and stunts for all present
At noon the basket dinners brought
by the members and their coaches
will be collected on the big tables and
real dinner eaten Following the
dinner will be a business session of
the County 4-H Club Federation with
Dean Sibley of Arnett presiding Both
the President and Vice-president of
the Federation are In college and the
Secretary becomes chairman At this
meeting the most important business
will be election of officers for the
coming year and each club Is allowed
three voting delegates
The recogniton program follows the
business session At this time re-
cogniton will be given to those clubs
and those members who have achieved
the distinction of winning honors in
County District and State wide con-
tests during the past year The out-
standing 4-H Club member of Ellis
County this year as determined by the
State Club Department will be an
nounced at the close of the program
This member has won the free trip
offered each year by the Santa Pe
Railway to the International Live-
stock Show at Chicago The trip was
won last year by Heward Suthers of
Arnett but no member Is elegible to
recieve the trip more than one time
Admission to the Achievement pro-
gram Is a completed report of the
members club work for the past year

school children Dr Louise Smith King
child specialist of the state Health De-
partment of Oklahoma City assisted
by local doctors will give the exam-
inations Each child enrolled will be
weighed measured and given a thorough
examination including head nose
throat ears lugs abdomen and ex-
tremities Advice will be given mothers
as to any defeats found necessary for
corrections as to needed corrections
in feeding and general hyglne
In order that Dr King may have
sufficient time to talk with each
mother and that as many families as
possible may be reached parents are
asked to enroll only one child for the
complete examination the one thy are
most eager to have examined In the
conference they may ask Dr King
advice about any problems or symp-
toms of other children A survey of
Shattuck will be made next week

ears eyes noses and throats and Dr
Fulton and Dr Duncan teeth and Dr
Stella Davis will assist Dr King with
the rest of the examinations

The Conference at Bishop will pro-
bably be sponsored by the Womans
Club with Mrs May Taylor as Chair-
man Any mothers In the south-
western part of the county desiring ap-
pointments should communicate with

drive is set at $50000 The funds
raised through subscription and other-
wise for the community chest is to
be used for the relief of the needy of
Shattuck
The Community chest is a civic
affair and is not confined to anyone
club lodge or organization
Shattuck Is no better than any other
city and has within her gates those
who from time to time are in need
It falls upon such city to be prepared
for such who meet with misfortune
When sickness enters the home and
hunger approaches and stormy weather
is about there is no time to seek aid
For this reason the community chest
orginated A fund prepared for necess
(ties of this kind should be accessable
The community chest Is a charatible
fund placed in the hands of a reliable
commltee selected for such occassions
The Lions Club considered the com-
munity Chest drive setting the stakes
at $50000 and selected the ministers

club They were instructed to extend
a request to the Sorosis Club and
clubs and organizations of the city to
select committees to work in conjunc-
tion with the ministers to solicit for
the charity fund

The trial of Lee Ray and Clark
Stone charged with shop lifting from
Edwards store was held before JiffQce

from Judge Pressnell on a change of
venue
They were bound over to the District
Court
The defendents were represented by
Chas B Leedy who brought up a
point of law at the conclusion of the
evidence as to the definition of grand
larceny with which the county attor-
neys charged the defendents A toot '

themselves the version of the law
Evidence showed the defenc w as
guilty which they made no effort to
disprove The Judge ruled suffloent
evidence had teen given to bind the
dependent over to the district court

wheat acreage has been cut 15 percent
according to reports The acreage re-
duction has been a result of dry wi'toor
during the plowing season and the
low price of wheat
