CATES.
Special to the Eagle.
Guthrie, Oct. 22.—The consti-
tution canvassing board, compos-
ed of Judges Bur ford and Clay-
ton and Secretary Filson, today
signed the certificates of the vote
o i the constitution and prohibi
tioq upon which President Ruose
velt will issue his proclamation
admitting Oklahoma into the
Union, and turned them over to
the board composed of Governor
Frantz and Judge Clayton, nam-
ed in the enabling act to take
the returns to Washington.
The certificates show that the
total vote on the constitution
was: For, 180,353; against, 75,-
051; majority for the constitution,
105,302; for prohibition, 130,3
against, 112,258; majority for
prohibition, 18,103.
No returns were received from
Woods county and the board ac-
cepted the abstract from the
county commissioners as second-
ary evidence of the vote, canvass-
ing it. The certificates show 38
precincts missing.
No action was taken on the
protest of Ledru Guthrie, of Ok-
lahoma City, attorney for the
citizen's League, against the cer*
tification of the vote on prohibi-
tion. Mr. Guthrie will now be
compelled to protest before At.
tofney General Bonaparte, and if
lie (ails there the courts wi be
his last resort in the fight against
prohibition being placed in the
constitution.
The proof reading of the, cop-
ies of tHe constituion wilt be
completed tonight and it is ex
pected that Governor Frantz and
Judge Clayton will leave for
Washington, tomorrow.
The state canvassing board to-
day counted the returns from Ok-
fuskee and Wagoner counties on
state senator and Judge. H. H.
Hoi 1 man, Demccrat, of Wetumke,
was declared elected senator from
the Twenty-second district, and
John Carruthers, of Okemah,
Democrat, judge of the Ninth
district. H. E. P. Stanford, of
Okmulgee, Republican, was de-
of its citizenship.
Wonderful! Wonderful!" said
John M. Stahl, former president.
"This face of this city has
changed in three short months."
"Oklahoma is empire in itself"
says President Cameron.
"No pen has told the story.
It is beyond the writer's dream,"
said Joshua Strange, of Marion,
Ind., second vice-president.
"I expected Oklahoma to be
much as a scene from a New
York comic opera," said Levi
Morrison of Greenville, Pa.,
"but found instead, that I was
still in New York.
"I wonder if Oklahomans ever
sleep," exclaimed E. 77. Wickey,
of Ocean Springs, Miss.
"Next to Wisconsin, this is
the best state in the un«on,"
said W. L. Ames, of Oregon,
Wis., "home comes first, you
know."
"I used to be a skeptic about
Oklahoma," said A. B. Strayer,
of Rock Island, III., second vice-
president, "but from now on I'll
be an enthusiastic sooner."
"Oklahoma is even greater
than Oklahomans think it is,"
said George M. Whitaker, of
Washington, D. C., secretary of
the congress.
"I'm coming back," said John
M. Kimble, of Port Deposit, Md.,
first assistant secretary. One vis-
it isn't enough to satisfy."
With only one hitch the slate
agreed upon by representatives
from each state was endorsed by
the congress in its electwv* of of-
ficers. ,
A. B. Strayer, of Illinois, who
was on the slate for second vice-
president was opposed by J. A.
Welch, of Kansas, but succeeded
in winning the fight by a vote of
417 to 106. All other officers
were elected by acclamation.
