JFPICE ON EAST GRAND AVENUE
PHONE 28,
There seems to be a prelty
strong sentiment in the Second
district, to eliminate both Fergu-
son and Giessler and nominate
some other mao at the convention
to be held at Geary on the 28th.
That looks like a good idea.
The Republican county conven-
tioa at Newkirk next Saturday to
elect delegates to the congression-
al convention will be the largest
in number oi delegates and prom-
ises to be one of the most harmon-
ious and enthusiastic ever held in
the county. Kay county Republi-
cans were never more united and
earnest than at the present time.
The fate of Aggie Myers and
Frank Hottman, sentenced to
hang for the murder of the hus-
band of the Myers woman on the
night of May 10, 1905, ia Karsas
City, is now in the hands of Gov.
Folk. The supreme court has re.
fu«ed to interfere, and both wi|
hang September 3 unless their
sentence is commuted by the gov-
ernor, which is hardly probable
considering the unusually revolt'
ing details of the crime.

GOT DEMOCRAT'S DOLLAR.
When the Republican congres-
sional committee adopted the plan
of asking for dollar contributions
to the campaign fund, Democratic
newspapers all over the country
sneeringly referred to it as a sub-
terfuge to blind the people to the
rascally schemes of the Republi-
cans. A few da^s later the Dem-
ocratic congressional committee
adopted the same plan, and these
same papers are now commending
it as one of the wise and patriotic
measures that are continually be-
ing developed by Democratic
statesmen. However, the Demo-
crats have become so used to tak-
ing up Republican measures after
they have proved successful that
a little thing like this will not be
noticed.
"ff I win you contribute to my
fund, and If you win I'll contribute to
yours."
They matched. Sherman won

Some idea may be gained of th
magnitude of thedestruction which j
befell ban Francisco from the es-
timates of material needed in re-
building. James L McLoughltn, ,
a constructing t:ni;inetrr •Ofagedjf
io 'ome of the rebuilding enter-'"
prises in San Francisco, estimates
that at least 5 billion feet of lum-
ber will go into the construction
of the city. This is almost a mil.
lion miles, or four tunes the dis-
tance from the earth to the moon
Sotne of the buildings that arc go-
ing up on made land require 800
and t.ooo piles to support the
footings. San Francisco is now
using more than 20 million feet of
lumber a month, counting in red-
wood as well as fir and pine The
lumber produced by the mil s in
the United States in 1933 as 35,.
084 166,000 board feet, and some
San Francisco engineers «y that
mare than 3 billion feet will go
into the rebuilding of the city,
(bough, of course, this will be
spread over a period of several
years.
