reasons would be closed to other na-
tions.
Here Is a great triumph for a gov-
eminent of the people by the people
for the people. Let those who doubt
the capacity of the American people
to rule themselves examine tbemat-
•'i"*;erin the light of the credit of ti e
I nation. Capital is timid, but nt-
! where offered the government on su. h
easy terms as in the United Stattf,
and the confidence sfcowti is absolute.
A free people must exercise eternal
vigilance, but they are able to meet
the requirement, and more than equal
to every crisis that may arise. Such
has been the history of the United
States, and there l no reason to
doubt toe future strenght of the gov-
ernment founded on a patriotic, intel-
ligent ballot. The flocking to this
country of more than a million immi-
' grants a year Is but another phase of
its unmatched standing as a land of
prosperity and opportunity. "One of
many," is a happy motto, an instance
of how the American mird from the
first has been influenced by a spirit
of prophecy and the geneous of a
destiny felt to be unparralleled —
