and last week (rather late?) a-
mong others the following com-
mittee was appointed:
"Shade:—Walter Mauer, M.M.
Shaw, F. F. Fitch, Tom Marks,
Chas. R. White, O. E. Slayton,
J. H. May, J. L. Johnson and
Herman Hoelscher.
It did not state what kind of
shade was to be furnished so we
infer, from their number, that
each member of the committee
is to hold a parasol in each hand,
making eighteen in all, which
will make considerable shade and
probably enough to accomodate
the crowd that will be there on
that day. Canton is fortunate in
having a nice, cool, shady park
in which to enjoy the Monster
Celebration, therefore no "shade"
committee was appointed.

Special To The RECORD.
Stock Yards, Kansas City,
Mo., June 18th. 1906. Extra
heavy cattle receipts first of last
week met lower prices, but the
week closed with the loss more
than regained, in spite of the
fact that the total run was 43,-1
000 head, very large for the sea-
son. Stockers and feeders did
not keep in line with killing cat-
tle, but remained dull and draggy
all week, closing 15 to 25 cents
lower. Movement of this class
to the country was 225 cars for
for the week, but dry pastures
and fears of injury to corn are,
of course, hurting trade in stock-
ers and feeders. Supplj- today
is 11,000 head, smaller than a
week ago, but liberal. Dry
weather is not directly forcing
in many cattle as yet. but it is
probably causing some shippers
to market cattle a week or two
sooner than they otherwise would,
anticipating a drought. Today's
cattle supply in the Native divi-
sion is mainly from northern
Kansas and southern Nebraska.
Heavy rains fell Northwest of
j here in Kansas and Nebraska last
night, other portions of Kansas
1 got it last week, and no general
[drought is indicated now. Top
[steers today $5.40, best cattle
I selling at $5.20 to $5.60, plain
and medium steers $4,50 to $5.15
good to choice heifers $4.50 to
$5.00. medium she stuff $3.00 to
$4.25, canners and stock cows
lower, $1.75 to $2.75, bulls lower
$2.50 to $3.75, veals quarter low-
er, more than 5000 calves received
last week, $4.50 to $6:25, stock-
ers and feeders $3.00 to $4.35.
Receipts of hogs last week,
79,400 head, were heaviest since
December. 1901, more than four
years ago; yet prices closed the
week strong, and a shade above
close of previous week. Buyers
need large numbers of hogs, and
are unable to stick together long
enough to effectually reduce pri-
ces. A combination was former
last Tuesday and the market
broke 10 cents, but all hands
were scrambling for hogs early
Wednesday, giving sellers the
best of it balance of the week.
Market is strong to 5 higher to-
day, top $6.60, bulk $6.40 to
$6.55, light weights up to $6.50,
a shade nearer the top than a
week ago.
