The social event of the .ea.on oc-
curred at the 101 Ranch last Satur-
day nlkht, when tbe Miller Brothers
entertained a large number of the
society people of fonca City and tbe
eastern people now taking their sum-
mer outing on the Ranch. The en-
tertainment consisted of dancing,
cards and other amusement., while
the refreshments were served in the
elegant style tor which tbe 101 is
famous tbe world over. The large
dancing hall was profusely decorated
and brilliantly lighted and presented
a scene of entrancing beauty. Tbe
music was furnished by the Carwalho
orchestra, which is a guarantee of
excellence that is never questioned.
The Ponca City people in attendance
speak bappily of tbe entertainment
and tbe delightful people they met
on that occasion.
A GOOD GAME.
Peace City Defeated Tsskaws Yesterday By •
Scsre sfllsl
In a clean, fast game of baseball on
tbe Ponca Cltv grounds ye|terday,
Ponca City defeated Tonkawa by a
score ot ft to 3. It was a flee exhibi-
tion or the national game and was
witnessed by a large and well pleased
crowd. Aside from tbe fact tbat the
wind was a little too strong, it wa. an
ideal day for playing,
Tonkawa wa. at bat fir.t, ard
blanked tbe first three Inning*. In
tbe fourth they annexed one on a two
base bit by Irby and a .ingle by
Brown. The next three Inning, they
drew blanks, but in tbe eighth tbey
secured two runs on an error by
Creveling and hits by Irby, Bull and
Bro«n after two were out.
Pooca City started tbe run getting
in the first act on an error by Johnson
and hits by Warden and Dwlggins.
Tbe next three Innings there wa*
nothing doing for tbe home boys, but
In the fifth tbey annexed a score on
an error by Irby, letting Wallace
reach first. He pilfered second and
scored on a bit by H. Headley. In tbe
next inning they dented the pan three
time, on five bits, two of tbem being
for three base.. In tbe eigbth they
took four more for good measure on
hits by H. Headley, Warden, Dwlg-
gins, B. Headley and Wallace, two of
them bilng for two bases and one lor
tbree.
Creveling, for the local., wa. in fine
form and of the .even hit. secured
off bis delivery only in one Inning
were they buncbed. He struck out
eleven of tbe opposing batsmen and
was eapeeially effective at critical
timet.
Irby pitched good ball the Irst part
of tbe game, but his delivery was
soon solved and a great bombardment
of bis slants took place.
The Ponca City team played In
good form and of the four errors only
one was costly. With a little more
