can be no good reason why all mem-

not already members should become
such at once. There is plenty of work
tor the Chamber to do and during tbe
season when trade is dull on account
of tbe busy days on the farms is a

Last Friday night a woman was ar-
rested on south First street for disor-
derly conduct and lodged in the city
jail. Saturday she was arraigned in
police court, gave her name as Rose
Duvell, and was given a twenty days
jail sentence. Sunday morning she
was found dead in her cell in the jail.
She was sitting on her bunk in the
jail, ber feet testing on tbe floor and
her eyes and mouth were closed as if
in sleep, showing that she had died
peacefully and without a struggle.
Dr. Widney, the county coroner, was
notified by phone anUcaaie over from
Kaw City Sunday and held an inquest
on the body in the police court room.
After hearing the evidence, the cor
oner's jury returned a verdict of
death by heart failure.
The body was rem ved to Hayden's
undertaking rooms, where it is being
held until relatives can be found if
possible. It is said that the woman's
husband resides at Wichita and his
name is James Glayson, but so far it
has been impossible to locate him
there
Tbe woman appeared to be about
30 or 35 yeara old, of medium heighth,
rather stout and apparently in good
bodily health. She ia aaid to be a
Mexican or bait-breed Indian.
It ia bardly probable that her bus-
band—if there is auch a person—will
be heard from, and the body will like-
ly be ouried at public expenae.
