KILLIG NEAR OSWALT
The Oswalt community was
the scene of another killing
last Thursday The killing oc-
curred at the home D C A1
lison two miles east of Oswalt
about dusk Thursday evening
and Allison was killed by Lee
Huddleston Immediately af-
ter the killing Huddleston
came to town and surrendered
to the officers The examin-
ing trial was held Monday af-
ternoon and resulted in Hud-
dleston being discharged
From what we learned of
the case the two men had been
having trouble for some over
a well which was on the Alli-
son place and which had been
rented to Huddleston
The evidence in the case
showed that Huddleston acted
wholly in self defense

DEATH AT BURNEYVILLE
The death of Sirs- Delia
Alexander wife of J W Al-
exander of Burneyville oc-
curred at the family home
Tuesday evening after a lin-
gering illness Deceased was
72 years of age and is surviv-
ed by a husband and several
children
The funeral and interment
took place Wednesday after-
noon funeral services being
conducted by Rev Hammonds
and interment taking place in
the Burneyville cemetery

Every member of the" Aux-
iliary is asked to meet me at
the court house Thursday af-
ternoon Please bring or send
in all knitted squares as we
want to finish the Red Cross
quilt and get it ready for sale

county for service in the Mer-
chant Marine has received
and executed his official oath
of office He will use his store
as a recruiting station and
will “sign on” husky young
Americans between 18 and 35
for trainnig on a squadron of
school ships maintained by the
Shipping Board The - train-
ing is preliminary to service
on merchant vessels for the
duration of the war and the
men enrolled for it are exemp-
ted from the draft

and child in Oklahoma must
realize his individual respon-
sibility in the winning of the
war is the aim of L E Phillips
State Chairman for the Okla-
homa Division of the Fourth
Liberty Loan Organization
down to the smallest units will
be effected and reports sho
that state-wide organization
is well under way
In' this campaign all sub-
scriptions in each county will
be handed over to the auditor
of the Liberty Loan Committ-
ee daily with money collected
The Liberty Loan auditor will
make proper records and re-
distribution of subscriptions to
the banks for forwarding to
the Federal Reserve Banks
Individual deposits in coun-
ty banks will form the basis
for that county’s quota and
the total of all' county quotas
will form the state quota
Equitable recognition of the
overloaded condition of some
banks will be made in order
that the determination of quo-
tas shall be uniform ’ ’
In the absence of the offici-
al announcement of the
amount of the loan which is
expected to be in the neigh-
borhood of five billion dollars
county chairmen have receiv-
ed the suggestion that a tentative-assessment
be made on a
basis oT adding two' thirds "to
the county quotas in the Third
Liberty Loan
The Government needs the
money and not the subscrip-
tion the state chairman de-
clares and men will be expect-
ed to give up too but not ex-
ceeding their limit
As a protection to the pub-
lic and to investors the Treas-
ury Department will encour-
age original issues of register-
ed bonds

Defense Councils to Assist
In Detection of Deserters
Oklahoma City Okla Sept
18 — At the request of the
War Department all county
councils will aid in the detec-
tion of deserters ' from the
army and draft evaders in-
cluding registrants who have
failed to file questionnaires or
appear for physical examina-
tions or otherwise comply with
the selective service law
Strange men in uniform will
be investigated whose’ pres-
ence is not fully accounted for
The cases -of unknown civil-
ians of draft age without reg-
istration cards will be inves-
tigated Army deserters
should be delivered to military
posts for disposition and draft
deserters will be reported to
the local agent of the depart-
ment of justice
Clyde Anglin and-Miss Hat-
tie Dell Kisselburg surprised
their many friends last Thurs-
day morning by going to Ard-
moe and quietly getting mar-
ried They returned to Marie-
tta Saturday Mr Anglin is
attending the officers’ 'train-
ing school at Plattsburg N Y
and was home on a furlough
Miss Kisselburg is one of Mar-
ietta’s own girls having been
reared here since childhood
and for the past year has been
teaching school
Mrs W H Cochran and
daughter of Enville were the
guests of friends here this
week
Will Publish Names
Of Unlisted Schemes
" The Oklahoma State Coun-
cil of Defense will in the near
future begin the publication
of the names of promotion
companies sending out litera-
ture which does not specifical-
ly state such company has the
endorsement of the Capital Is-
sues Committee The action
of those companies who repre-
sent that they are selling stock
because the companies are de-
voting all their resources to
the purchase of government
bonds is not endorsed by the
state council
Virgil Porter of Leon was a
business visitor here Monday
MARRIED
Mr Porter Stovall of Marie-
tta and Miss Era Bland of this
city were married Sunday at
the Baptist Parsonage by Rev
Danna They will make their
home on a farm near Marietta
where the groom now lives
He was formerly a Sulphur
boy Both of the young -people
were popular in Sulphur So-
citey and have many friends
who wish them a long and
happy life on the farm —
