GROVE DELAWARE COUNTY OKLAHOMA FRIDAY JANUARY 17 1919
NO 32
A Few Simple Facts
i
Did you know that THE GROVE SUN printing plant was one
of the best equipped in the entire state of Oklahoma? Well it is
We have recently added a standard Linotype to our equipment
which is now being set up This together with the other machin-
ery we have represents an investment of more than $8000
We pay over $20000 taxes each year into the treasury of Delaware County and
just want to remind you that no job is too large or too small 'for us to tackle When
you think of printing think of the Grove Sun and send your next order to us If we can-
not please you there will be no charge And remember that outside printing concerns
care nothing about the welfare of Delaware County All they want or care for is the
profit on their printing and every time a job is sent out of this county the printing in-
dustry here has been crippled that much Stop crippling home industries and give us a
chance

The policy of this paper has ever been to help those who help us This oolicy is
going to be applied stronger than ever henceforth as we believe this is the one best way
to build up a successful business that will benefit the very best interests of this county
We hope our subscribers will please take notice that the Government forbids us to
send them our paper when they are delinquent We will endeavor to send you a notice
before your subscription expires and if you ignore it we will take it for granted that you
do not want the Sun any longer and WILL STOP IT
We earnestly solicit your patronage

I Still Do Not
Understand
Why is there no room in the
school building for the fourth
grade? Why no money to pay a
teacher to teach them?
Every one knows that the third
grade of last year would natur-
ally he the fourth grade this
year also that the secoild grade
last year would be the third
grade this year
The number of each
readily be estimated as
are very few new pupils if any
in those grades Why only one
teacher employed for the two
grades and why did that teacher
accept two grades when only one
could be cared for?
Yet that having occured nnd
the necessity arose for seperat
ing the grade and employing an-
other teacher why put them olT
in another building-Lone utterly
unfit when there are two class
rooms both of which are seldom
used at one time? True they are
small and would be somewhat
crowded were the fourth grade
put there but the eighth grade
this year has only fifteen pupils
occupying a room containing
some thirty desks Why was
this room not given a larger
grade and the smaller room
used' for the eighth? This might
nt timek - inconvenience high
school but which should ho con-
sidered first high school or the
grades?
Then because ' we keep our
child out of school ve are inform-
ed that “no one is the loser but
she’’ Is she a loser?
In school she recited five les-
sons and had now lessons assign-
ed V
She hud six hours of confine
ment in cold 'badly ventilated
room-
In addition to that she was
required to bring her books
home and at the expense of much
needed play and sleep prepared
those lessons — taking from three
to four hours of constant appli-
cation — being required to read
aloud long lessons three times to
long suffering’parents and to the
injury of a not over strong throat
At home she prepares the
same lessons with the same as-
sistance in the early hours of
the day when she is in good con-
dition for the work — devotes the
afternoon to out door exorcise
and hern i gilts to sleep
With an hour for each study
and the proper supervision the
work should be easily done in
the sclio 1 room most of it at
least

Don Grafton an expert lino-

companied by his estimable wife
came down from Joplin Mo
Saturday and we immediately
went to work setting up the
Sun’s Mergentlialer Linotype
while our wives who were school
school mates prepared three
meals a day for us and talked
of the happy times when they
werq girls together Well get
ting back to the linotype job we
had some tasc The company
had hired somebody to grease
parts of the machine that were
subject to rust and when we
uncrated it found cup grease
smeared and worked into all
parts and there are but fifteen
thousand parts to a linotype We
worked day and night until yes-
terday noon removing the grease
when Mr Grafton was forced to
return to Joplin on account of
his interests in the Labor Tri-
bune there which he edits We
presume it will take until the
middle of rext week to get all
the grease removed adjustments
made and the machine in opera-
tion The grease is responsible
for the Sun being late not a line

Suggestion
We are as much interested in
the public school of Grove as
any one but do not like to see
the children use an old frame
house for a school building es-
pecially when our town has a
better place for all except the
fourth grade We object gen-
tlemen of the school board and
teachers of Grove First it is
not right Second there is no
good reason for such a Condition
We realize the present building
is inadequate and that we are
crowded for room but there is a
remedy that can be applied now
and that is to turn over tho reci-
tation room now being used by
high school to the fourth grade
pupils Why can’t this be done?
None of tlie high school pupils
will be hurt in an educational
way and even though we admit
thtthey would be inconvenien-
ed slighty is it not better than
to have twenty -five children in
the fourth ' grade wender their
way to a dilapidated building
a block away from the town’s
school building and the supervis-
ion of its Professor?
Tills article is not written to
hurt any one’s feeling and in
the event there is not room in
the recitation room for the fourth
grade why not put the eight
grade pupils in the recitation
room and give the fourth grade
pupils the eighth grade quarters
There is but fifteen pupils In the
eight grade
