"Now, Mr. Commercial, the
denioeraey of the News is as
flood as your own with this
difference : Wo do not claim
to Ik* a fool democrat or a
lick-spittle democrat, but
stand out for principle and
put principle ahead of party.
Truly, ray good brother,
your article is a master piece
and you should preserve it
to show to your posterityjcial is concerned this matter
just to let them know what 1 has come to an end because
their granddad could do. jit is a sheet that will not
J he above quotation is, sling personal mud at anv-
frora an editorial of the Blue|body, but will without fear
Jacket News in reply to the of criticism, even such as
Commercial of a recent date the News has invented, con-
anent the proposed single J ti 11 ue to fight thd gang that
in the train of the (Miciftain
or leader. As to his figures,
the Commercial don't think
there is any correctness in
them, and gives them no
credit, because the man who
produced them immediately
killed his claim to reason
and conservatism bv the
use of insulting epithets. He
is in need of some training.
It follows that if he would
make such 11 break as the
above quotation he would be
equally reckless in in liis J
other statements.
In so far as the Commcr-I
statehood ideas of the editoi
of that paper. In concluding
a criticism in that manner
the editor does himself the
honor of getting out of the
pale of decent discussion,
and lays reason aside in the
effort to uncoil the venom
that is bottled up in his ser-
|>entine form. No. the Com-
mercial is not of the lick-
spittle variety referred to,
and has too much respect for
itself to make of its columns
a symposium of idiocy, lun-
acy and abuse. We would
not east sueli a reflection
upon the person of even the
editor of the News, who, we
we suppose is a nice fellow
in his way, but has over-
looked the fact that such
terms are not in keeping
with politeness, and that he
should reform his manner of
criticism, use more reason
and less venom. He has a
bad cause, has taken up with
the wrong crowd, and the
fact that Vinita which is the
home of a hi# gang of carpet
baggers favors the single
state cause is no reason that
either-the News or Commer-
cial should fiance attendance
the News knows is robbing
the people her'- every day.
By the time they get through
winding up the great tribal
estate, the tribe will also be
wound up, if some power
does not arise and smite the
thieves in high places,
Oklahoma has the same sort
of gang in control, and right
now the fact is standing out
plain to the world that the
delegateship to congress was
stolen from Cross by the use
of a mere technicality that
was so transparent that even
those who used it should!
blush, and 110 good man j
should advocate anything
that they advocate, when the |
apparent reason is to cotin-
ue the rule of corruption!
that now has full swing in [
this country.
Another thing, it will be!
rememhered that the original
idea of the Republican party j
was to make two states of
this and Oklahoma, but find-J
ing that it was bad politics I
from a Republican stand-
point, they abandoned the!
idea, and took up the other
shout for single statehood.
The editor of the News rath-
er insinuates that lie is the
first man that ever advocated
single statehood. Such 1111
impression 011 his part is
vastly wrong, for it is a no-
torious fact that Col. Bill
Walker of the Purcell Regis-
ter was the first editor in In-
dian Territory to propose it,
and it is a well known fact
that he has of late not said
much about it.
As to the Commercial not
I having any ambition above
political expediency for
I double statehood, such a
I statement has not a color of
truth in it. The editor of
the Commercial is a Demo-
crat of course, but'the reason
of it is that lie thinks the
Democratic faith is a holy
one and that the triumph of
that party means the triumph j
of good government. It bo- j
lieves that the American
government is today the best
government 011 earth, but it
Relieves that if Democracy
should triumph at the polls'
and have, say eight years, in
succession, of power, this!
country would prosper as it
never prospered before.
Some of the best friends
the Commercial has got are
Republicans, but when it
comes to politics and con-
viction the Commercial is
content to let them think as
they please and if they want
to get in bad company such
as the carpet bag gang that
has been sent down here to
rule the Indian, and inci-
dentally everything in sight, 1
I of course they have to do so,
for no one can prevent it,!
but all good Democrats can:
fight it, and make of it a po-
litical fight, because there's
(more than polities in it andi
because bad politics are cor-:
rupt politics, and the sooner
the people of this country:
get .home rule, they will have

better rule, and will not be a

Okla-anything -else. We
want to arrange our own af-
fairs without regard to what
may be done across the line. I
As to taxation, there never
was a time when people got
something for nothing, and
110 doubt there is a bill in !
incubation now to put a rid-
er 011 the proposition fori
single statehood, to cause the
territory of the Five Tribes
to pay their prorata for the
blessings, so called, that
will come with single state-
hood. The Commercial re-
peats that the men who have
it in their power to give sin-,
gle statehood, and see in it a|

the industry of the Five |
Tribes are Republicans, and!
the Commercial is on the|

that he receives in defense of
a good cause. He is willing
to bear the stripes.
