commercially, and Chelsea will
have the lion's share of good
things that the construction of
this road will give to the people
of the Cherokee nation.
The headquarters of the com-
pany will he here, and the res-
idence of ita officials well be here,
and in coarse of a few years we
will have afreet can racing down
the streets of Chelsea and the
clang of the bell will proclaim the
prosperity that is upon ua When
once fairly started, there is no
power that can head us off. We
have the natural resources, coal,
oil, stone, gas and grit. Chelsea
is going to make a city, because
her people have energy enough to
get up steam and keep firing. It
is not a -sail town. Some people
might expect the winds and God
Almighty to hlow a railroad and
v metropolitan activity into their
V. possession, but not So in Chelsea.

tween the citizens and company
jt and following that is a list of the
uames of those persons who sub-
scribed money or lota, and when
the future historian delves into
the archives of the Chelsea Com-
mercial Club, he will find who
made footprints that wouldn't rub
out.
AGREEMENT.
Chelsea, Ind. Ter., June 9,1904.
It is hereby agreed between
John D. Scott, U. 8. Jetferies, C.
W. Poole, W. G. Milam, A. Bonds
as a committee representing the
citisens of the town of Chelsea Ind
Ter. party of the first part, and
the Oklahoma & Cherokee Cen-
tral Railroad, party of the second
part, that:
W The said railroad compauy is to
construct and operate a railroad to
be known as the Oklahoma and
Cherokee Central, to tap four trunk
li/ % of railroad, and to cross the
"'A Frisco railroad in the said town of
■, Chelsea, and that the work of con-
struct ion is to begin within a rea-
sonable time, from date and
completed and in operation from
said town to the Cherokee Oil &
Gas Company's oil possessions
west of the said town within one
year from date.
In considsration of tha forego-
ing stipulations, the said commit-
tee for the citiiens of the said
town agrees to donate to Mid com-
pany 88 town lots in the said town
as exhibited by list hereto attach-
ed, marked "A" to deliver to said
company a ten day option from
June 9th on 48 lots within the
said town, as exhibited in list here-
to attached, marked "B" to deliv-
er to said company a ninety day
option on other property in said
town, as exhibited in list hereto
attached, marked •*C" and to pay
to said company a cash bonus of
18745.00, one third to he paid
when the road is completed and
in operation from the said town to
the said oil possession, and the
balance in two equal installments,
in one and two yeare^rom that data
It is understood that the said 88
town |pts are to be delivered at
the time of the first cash payment.

is now making the permanent sur-
vey of the line west, and some of
the construction material is on the
| side track in Chelsea, and as soon
as the right of way can be secured

That there is a vein of coal un-
der the town of Chelsea, is a well
known fact, not only is it a fact
that it is under the town, but it
is under the country for miles
around at about 200 feet depth.
Everywhere that a drill has gone
down, coal has been found at about
