ami Zinc and Lead company an or-
ganization Incorporated under the
laws ot the state to Maine has come
Into possession of seven very rich
properties in the Miaitl field
The seven are as follows: The
three Lennan mines and mills situ-
ated In th north part of the city of
Commerce the Oko Lead and Zinc
company’s lease immediately north
-of the Minoma and the' Southland
Miping company's lease just south of

the great head of water they en-
countered some time ago causing
work to be abandoned in that shaft

LUCK CAVE MINING
COMPANY TAKES IN
MORE NEW MEMBERS
The Lucky Cave Mining company
so called because of the fact that the
shaft being sunk just east of Qua-
paw on the Bethlehem lease was not
preceded by drill holes but was be-
gun after one ot the members of the
company had descended into a deep
cave nearby and discovered lead
cubeat a depth of fifty feet'
The five members of the company
B H Woody Sam Gilmore W M
Johnson G Fesender and George
Kinder were all working men with
small means but by assessing them-
selves they managed to keep money
enough on hand to keep the sinkers
at work until the shaft is now down
to a depth ot 90 feet v
A few days ago four Tulsa men
W H and F V Lind H O Aldrich
and Wm Francis drillers from the
oil fields arrived in Quapaw to which
point they had shipped their drill rig
and in looking about the district they
met the Lucky Cave men each of
whom needed the other and a con-
tract was made of mutual benefit
- Ten holes are to be drilled by the
Tulsa men one for every acre of the
lease and the rig is to be set so the
- sinkers will be supplied with steam
for their drills and as the work of
drilling advances the shaft will be
continued to a much greater depth
From the fact that the Lucky Cave
is surrounded by good properties it
is believed that it will only be nec-
essary to drill a few holes to locate
a splendid mine In which case nine
- poor men will suddenly be trans-
formed into rich ones
SOUTH MIAMI FIELD
NO LONGER WILDCAT
SO RESIDENTS SAY
The South Miami field Is no longer
a wild cat proposition according to
the views of the people who live in
that section
With the good finds on the Henson
land across the river from the Old
McConnell mine and the recent
strike on the Thomas land north of
Narcissa the several good holes at
the Coal Creek Camp and those on
the Barger land Mmth of Miami the
residents of tlm smith section of the
Miami field think they have a real
mining district
Only a few days ago the drills on
the Gibson farm pulled out after
drilling for months and left the coun-
try leaving the people about there a
a little blue as it was supposed that
they had given up the search but
when a few days later another rig
pulled in on the lease and begun to
operate things took on a different
appearance
The secrecy which is maintained
by some of the drillers is thought by
Borne to mean that there is much
more being discovered than Is being
reported and the people down there
ore keyed up to a pretty high pitch
as a good camp In that vicinity would
i mean the making of several million-
aires The Hurley flats on C street SW
have been purchased by W N Scott
from the Walch Real Estate company

manager Thos G Dunlap Oklaho-
ma City secretary and treasurer
The management of the new com-
pany has arranged for the construc-
tion of new mills on the Oko the
Southland the Monadnock and the
Wauchusetts properties and the work
will be pushed through with all pos-
sible speed
While the consideration has not
been given out it is understood that
It would be necessary to use seven
figures to write it and the deal is
looked on as one ot the really big
ones In the history of the field
iter out but It may be that only the
combined efforts of the Osage which
has shut down pumping activities on
account of lack of co-operation on the
part of their neighbors and several
other companies will be able to drain
the district about those mines
The Muskogee people will have
their mill ready to operate In about
three weeks time and are desirous of
having the ground opened so that
they may run to capacity
Ladd Mining Company
to Build New Mill
on Lease Near Quapaw
The Ladd Mining company a Fay-
etteville Arkansas company whose
40-acre lease is located in Section 26
northwest of Quapaw arranged Mon-
day to erect a mill of 250 tons ca-
pacity at once The new plant will
be electrically driven with the excep-
tion of the hoists and pumps which
will be handled with steam power
The sinkers of the Ladd shaft are
just breaking into the ore at a depth
of 70 feet which the drill holes
showed to be of a 30-foot face and
assaying as high as 1970 per cent

tendent of operations at the Ladd

BUFFALO MINING
COMPANY MAKES
2 GOOD STRIKES
The Buffalo Mining company has
made two good strikes in the last
few days one of them at the Buffa-
lo mine northwest of Quapaw where
they shot Into better ore in a drift
to the south just started than in
either of the three which are being
driven north and east
The other strike has been made at
the Red Skin lease on the state line
about a quarter ot a mile west of the
Broomcorn mine where sinkers are
about eight feet in a splendid grade
ot ore which drillholes showed to
be 4 per cent Btuff
VINITA MEN DEVELOP
LEASE NEAR QUAPAW
Three Vlnita men J S Davenport
J H Butler and Dr E L Bagby are
testing out the S2 of the NW4 of the
NW4 and the NE4 of the NW4 of
Section 26-28-23 a part of the Day-
light land northwest of the city of
Quapaw Ten holes have been sunk
on the tract and good jack has been
found in the greater number of them
It will be the policy of the Vinlta
men to make a thorough test of their
holdings as they are certain from
the drilling already done that they
have a valuable lease

When You Have a Cold
It is when you have a severe cold
that yog appreciate the good quali-
ties of Chamberlain’s Cough Reme-
dy Mrs Frank Crocker Fana 111
writes: "Our five-year-old son
Paul caught a severe cold last win-
ter that settled on his lungs and he
had terrible coughing spells We
were greatly worried about him
as the medicine we gave him did not
help him in the least A neighbor
spoke so highly of Chamberlain's
Cough remedy that I got a bottle of
It The frlst dose benefited him so
much that I continued giving it to
him until he was cured”
About Constipation
Certain articles ot diet tend to
check movements of the bowels The
most common of these are cheese tea
and boiled milk On the other band
raw fruits especially apples and
bananas also graham bread and
whole wheat bread promote a move-
ment of the bowels When the bowels
are badly constipated however the
sure way Is to take one or two of

s t
The Crescent Mining v company
mentioned In these columns Friday
whose shaft was approaching the ore
struck the metal Saturday seevral
feet higher than expected
Sinkers are taking out a good
quality of both jack and lead and
from the showing made in the drill
holes it is believed that -the Crescent
lease will develop into as good as
those on either side which are among
the best In the field '
There is only one lease between
the Crescent and the Underwriters
on the west the Sterling Is just-
across the road to the south the
Greening Is only a short distance
to the south and the Osage is less
than a half mile to the east all of
them wonderfully rich and it is the
belief of the men who are sinking the
shaft that the Crescent will be in the
same grade of stuff within a week'
INCOMETAXlAN
BACK TO MIAMI
FOR LAST TIME
Claude Collard federal income tax
expert of Oklahoma City arrived In
Miami Monday for the purpose of giv-
ing people of this county their last
opportunity to file income tax re-
turns Mr Collard will be at the of-
fice of the county commissioners on
the second floor ot the court house
until March 27 Persons subject to
the tax must make their returns be-
fore that date or they will be liable
to a severe penalty
It is important Mr Collard said
that some sort of return even though
It is not entirely accurate be made
at once in order that the Income tax
liability of the taxpayer may be dis-
closed Persons not having time to
make a complete return before the
office closes here he said should
make a partial return for the pur-
pose of getting their names on the
records They will then not be sub-
ject to the penalty for attempted
evasion of the law
Every effort is being made by the
tax expert to assist the public but it
is pointed out that under the law the
responsibility In making the return
falls entirely on the taxpayer The
citizen must come to the government
Mr Collard said as the government
is not required to seek out the tax
payer

STRIKES SOUTH OF
RIVER ENCOURAGE
Recent "reports of rich ' Strikes In
the district across the river from
Miami are very “encouraging and ere
long that may prove as valuable as
the Plcher field The Lucky Dozen
Lead and Zinc company Is now drill-
ing out their 310-acre leaBe in the
south field and reports of exception-
ally rich runs of ore means renewed
activity over there That the Miami
field will yet be extended many miles
in every direction there is little room
for doubt 1 ' 1
Tulsa and Oklahoma City oil pro-
ducers are large holders in the south
field and it is said great develop-
ment will soon be under way A
field south ot the river one-halt as
rich as the dirtrlct to the north of
Miami would mean a city of 50000
in less than three years- When the
Plcher field was first prospected the
drill records were not any better than
those shown from the territory to the
south of Miami Who would gain-
say the probable richness of the new
field?

lessened proportionately
