Miami is soon to Lave a Katy connection It will be made
through the Oklahoma Kansas and Missouri and the line will
be completed and in ojteration by April according to an agree-
ment with the Commercial club of Columbus
railroad
The O K & M railroad la to
build to Columbus This was decid-
ed upon this week when the 0 K
& M tiled a bond for $10000 as an
earnest of good faith and work will
begin on the extension immediately
The O K & M now runs to Plch-
er which is the nearest point to
Columbus and the line is to be ex-
tended from that point a distance
of 12 miles The O K & M has
entered a 'contract with the Colum-
bus Commercial club to have cars
operating within five months
The terminals of the O K & M
are in Miami where the geneal of-
fices have lorlg been located and the
building of the new line to Colum-
bus will give the O K & M a con-
nection with the Missouri Kansas
and Texas at that place The M K
& Thas been figuring on coming in-
to the mining district for some time
and it is probable the O K & M will
give that road all the connection de-
sired at that end of the line
Another conection of these two
roads probably will be made south-
west of Miami in a short time as it
is the intention of the O K & M in
the near future to build to Welch
where there are extensive coal fields
It is only 14 miles from Miami to
Welch by public roadr which prob-
ably will be cut down a little by a
railroad
With the completion of the line to
Columbus Miami will have another
splendid outlet for the products of
the mining district This is one of
the most important railroad moves
made in this section for some time
find opens a new and extensive field
for Miami The completion of the
Columbus extension gives the O K
& M added prestige and will make
it a big factor in the future of Mi-
ami and the mining district giving a
new channel for freight traffic-

The Mobilization Problem
Great Warships are sliding off the ways navy yards
and arsenals are working night and day great mobil-
ization camps have sprung up as if by magic every-
where the vast resources of the Nation are being gath-
ered together for war
AH over the Bell telephone system thousands of em-
ployes are busily engaged in all branches of telephone
activity to keep pace with the extraordinary telephone
needs of the Nation And with the increased Govern-
ment requirements there will be greater demands for
commercial service
Not only is there a great scarcity of materials ' but
there is a similar scarcity of labor and already many
of our technically trained employes — men who cannot be
replaced— have joined the colors
As time goes on it will become continually harder to
meet the demands for service from Governmental and
private sources — and our patrons are asked to bear
this extraordinary condition in mind and to help in the
maintenance of an effective service by eliminating all
wasteful use of telephone lines and equipment
