Railway and New Gas Line
is Coming
The surveyors all register-
ing from Joplin were here
on last Monday and are run-
ning one of these lines but
they are very close mouthed
and nothing has leaked out
but is thought they are K C
Southern people' and that the
survey is really to connect at
Afton with the M 0 & G
coming from Wagoner A
Columbus Kas paper prints
the following:
There is an acute interest here
in stories that two new surveys are
being made through the Country
one for a new railroad and one for
a new natural gas pipe line
The proposed railroad will prob-
ably be built It is a branch of the
Kansas City Southern and destined
to run from Pittsburg Kan
through Cherokee county into the
Indian Territory by way of Miami
Claremore Ind Ter is the
terminus of the present project but
various Texas points will be added
later A straight line will bring
the road by way of Columbus A
survey was made crossing the Fris-
co line near Crestline but a new
line is being surveyed
The proposed new gas pipe line is
to run from the big gas fields in the
Territory to various big towns in
Central Missouri and probably to
St Louis
The surveyors will be here
again next Monday

v All day Christmas old Ottawa was in
her glory We had a shooting match
for ducks turkeys and just every old
thifig that a fellow wanted to put up
Keilerstrass Oscar Pepper and old
Crow were represented gentlemanly
but uot unlawfully The match lasted
all day With one hour for turkey din-
ner at the house of Joe Wind served
with cranberry sauce and celery A
fine musicale at the home of P M
Fink and an after clap of a? charivari
at the house of Lou Cook who set up
the cigars and candy to a fareuwell
We will never for get the forlorn or
suicidal look on the countenance of a
few who came around next morning
and asked if we had forethought enough
to retain a morning eye opener or des
pondent dispenser We winked our
left eye and said just enough for an
appetizer for one and it had gone to the
far beyond
Hugh K Wind came down from
Kansas City Saturday evening last to
spend the holidays with home folks
He has been electrician in that City for
over two years
We will have a pound party at the
Friends church on next Sunday even
ing Every body is expected to bring
some of the crumbs from their Sunday
dinner to make a ten oclock lunch for th
evening besides the pound of donation
We will sing the New year in and the
old one out and have a general good
conversational social It would not be
a bad idea for some real nice lady to
frame a pledge for the betterment of
the young and old of our neighborhood
Not that we have been so very bad in
past year but' there is a wide opening
for improvements particularly in the
behavior around the church and other
public entertainment held on our sacred
cemetery hill
The great Christmas holiday is over
and we were uot behind in having a
good Christmas tree Of course things
weie not as elaborate as they were
twenty years ago when we were all
poor and generous Now most of us
are in affluent circumstances and as
stingy as thunder The tree was about
one tenth as rich in presents as it would
have been a long time ago and the
people nine tenths better off but strug
gling to lay up those injurious dollars
and not thinking cf the poor unfortu-
nate people who have nothing in the
face of a hard winter Things went
off nicely But of course there was a
covey of boys who had a gilt of al-
cohol iu two quaits of water and got
fighting drunk But it so happened
that there was enough sober and level
hoaded people present to keep order
Uncle Temp Woolard bus lost a
white shepherd pup and will give any
boy a big round dollar for information
which will oause the recovery of same

TO KNOW ABOUT
Corkle Lou Cook and Miss Ruth Waugh
were married by the Rev Wm George
on Sunday afternoon last They are
young couples who we can vouch for
They are couples who according to our
judgment are well mated The first
couple we have known from boyhood
and girlhood and with all the alertness
of heariug and seeing have never seen
or hem d a word detrimental to their
goodness or character and we - wish
them all the pleasure ana listing hap'
piuess which we think they should
hqve under the circumstances and the
circumstances are very favorable The
last couple we have not known for so
long but have been favorably impress-
ed with their general make up for the
last two years and are in a shape to
say they are well mated and future
prospects are gloriously bright for
them Both couples are lovable happy
and industrious All the jey imaginable
is our wish in both instances
The war has actually bevunin the matri
monial conflict and there is no show
for a cessation of hostilities until every
marriageable young lady has joined in
the fray or said no with her mouth
wide open Just to think iu the last
few days four of our- fair daughters
have left the realm of ' singleness and
taken up the reality of life We are
hoping that all these newly married
couples with those to come very short-
ly will take the advice of our good
president and not check until the odd
number of seven is reached Give us
womanly women Bible believing wom-
en wemen who are natural women
who think of something else besides
money fashion and foolishness and
women who don’t try to get a whole
gob of fat forty inches around into a
twenty three inch corset
There is always a calm before a storm
and the first indication showed up on
Christmas morning by the advent of a
line large boy baby at the home of
James So ith and wife on Spring river
Dr Holmes was caught iu the storm
and was out all night before it ceased
There are Hght'cloudslri" every direct-
ion and heavier ones underlying them
and stili others ready to burst in all
their fury iu the birth forecast
We care nothing about the des-
cription of Alice Roosevelt’s wedding
ring What we want to know is she
going to follow the dictates of her
father’s advice and help solve this great
race suicide question We have seven
likely girls (as they say in Arkansaw)
who swear they wont marry until they
find out what cards Alice plays thou
they will follow suit Ic is too true
that the nigger and foreigners are in-
creasing like rats and the American
whites and Indians are losing out
Fatty Woolard is down from Kansas

his folks at Hollow P O Ind Ter
One of our merchants sent for Christ
mas goods and they got here on the
87th Ordered them 10 days ago Who
is to blame?
'1 hat lady who was so terribly work-
ed up about the other woman getting a
large barrel of goods from the east
last year can bowl again As she got
another this year and of a much finer
make up
We have had so much of this marrage
and birth business in our head to write
up that we forgot to chronicle the three
or four interesting dances that passed
off nicely daring the week'
We’did appreciate that box of pioneer
cigars sent to ns by some gentleman
of royal blood and thoughtful brain
and that vial we got from Kansas
City you know is intact yet Thanks

Breaknail Whitetree is improving
the looks of his house by weather
boarding it and putting on a new

We have an idea that Mr and Mrs
Tom Armstrong were somewhat dis-
turbed in their sleep last Mond ay
night by the amount of 1 racket that
was made Those shots of dynamite
made us think that Admiral Togo had
sailed np the majestic Cowskin and
was bombarding Cayuga
Mr Wm Croft who is staying at

sick
Dr A U Chase of Tiff City was
here in the neighborhood on business

REPUBLICANS TO ACT
Or May Lose a Point but
Action to be Delayed till
Late in the Session
Unless we have a divorce from
the cause of Arizona and New
Mexico in the statehood bill new
Oklahoma’s chance for admission
goes glimmering
However some of the best post-
ed men who have been in Wash-
ington and discussed the matter
with public men say that we will
be admitted in March or by the
first ot April and that we will also
be given the long term 25 years
of peruna
The plan for admission of Arizona
and New Mexico will be abandon-
ed when it is plain that those terri-
tories desire separate statehood in-
stead of joint statehood as agreed
by the congressional conference re-
cently held in Washington This
was not a caucus and not binding t
and the 65 republicans who oppos-
ed jointure will eventualfy side-
track the Arizon-New Mexico pro-
visions of the bill in which they
will be assisted by the democratic
minority
At any rate if the matter of ad-
mitting Oklahoma and Indian Ter-
ritory is left to the next Congress
it Is highly probable that a detno- '
cratic majority will make of them
two states and the republican party
can ill afford to have four demo-
crats instead of two added to the
senate at this juncture
And democrats in both territories
will be satisfied with the joint state
for it wiil give us a state compar-
atively free from graft and it will
be hard for the men to find lodge-
ment who have been plundering
the tribesmen and whites all these
years of tribal rule and federal in-
terference to Oklahoma in a few days -The
entertainment and Christmas
tree at the Council House were quite a
success Parson Wallace and those
who assisted him are to be congratu-
lated on their work
The singing was fine Many compli-
ments were passed on the singing of
the Cardwell girls of Tiff City Injun
Bill done his part fine The best of
order prevailed and that is quite an
improvement on the old order of
things
Jack Armstrong and family Wesley
Sorahas and wife of Brushy were
among those who were in attendance
at the Christmas tree
Misses Curdle and Bertha Evans of
Cayuga were also viewing the tree
And we also caught a glimpse of Gould
peeping around the corners
There were quite a number of
strangers in and around the Council
House on Christmas day which made
Old String town take on quite a met-
ropolitan air
