on: Any land that will raise 30
bushels of corn to the acre of an
'average season will raise 200 bus-
hels of strawberries the same kind
’ of a season Land with a- gentle
slope I think is the best if it is too
rolling it will wash ' bad between
rows and leave them on ridges
great many people say they don’
know anything about raising straw-
v berries t Anybody that can hitch a
' team to the right end of a plow can
raise them if he or sh$ will work
the are just as easy to raise as corn
or potatoes' If you are living in
Miami and have two or three extra
lots instead of planting them in
’ potatoes and only raising enough
potatoes to do' you ' put ‘ -them in
strawberries and make that patch
' pay for your potatoes flour L sugar
coffee and a few extras besides all
the' nice strawberries you - can 'eat
for a month fresh from your own
patch 'and 10 or 20 gallons that
- your wife will be sure to can It
is possible to raise 4000 600 crates
of strawberries from a single acre
' Now you farmers that would like
to increase yourincome put' out
next spring 3 4 or 5 acres of straw-
berries give them jusf the same
care you would a piece of corn and
if it does not pay you beyond your
expectation come iu and kick the
editor for printing this '
On the other hand if it does pay
you bring him in a nice crate of
strawberries and see him smile I
will make one suggestion Now
you need a small orchard for home
use we have a hrst class nursery
here in Miami buy those trees set
- them urn and put- strawberries in
between them and while your or-
chard is coming on you will more
than pay for your trees land and
cultivation on your strawberries
- The big red strawberry ' has done
more for South wesUMissourf than
the big red apple ever did or ever
