tion It is a scientific fact that all cases of
heart disease not organic are not only
traceable to but are the direct result of indi-
gestion All food taren into the stomach
jwhich falls of perfeot digestion ferments and
swells the stomach puffing It up against the
heart This Interferes with the action of
'the heart and in the course of time that
delicate but vital organ becomes diseased

BRYANETTES
From the Commoner
Secretary Wilson seems determined
to bore out all the grabs in his de-
partment Portsmouth now seems to be sev-
eral laps ahead of The Hague and
still gaining
The Panama canal managers are
considerably better at framing mot-
toes than at throwing dirt
The standpatters find it necessary
to do some lively dodging around the
reciprocity issue these days
Before it adjourns it is hoped that
the peace commistion will tell' us the
correct spelling of that island
But perhaps if they have as much
trouble with these democratic planks
as the democrats have had tne repub-
licans will bring them back
Having successfully gone to the
bottom of the ocean President Roose-
velt should now go to the bottom of
graft in the departments at Washing-
ton The Kansas supreme court’s action
in tullifying the state refinery laws
adds a considerable sum to Mr Rocke-
feller’s belief in the integrity' of the
courts
Push the beef trust indictments
this year ? Of course not Next
year? Perhaps That is congres-
sional campaign year and a good time
to manufacture political thunder
-When the president sees how mnch
more popnlar he is when he works for
peace than he is when he talks for
war he may become less warlike in
his utterances
The "yellow peril” in the opinion
of the standpatters and tariff barons
is the refusal of China to trade unless
given a square deal The square deal
is exactly what the barons do not
want ”
At the Toronto' convention of the
International Typographical Union a
delegate who criticised the union of-
ficials in his labor paper was unseated
and his union ordered to take up his
card The spectacle of printers who
more than any other class of men
profit directly from a free press under-
taking to muzzle the press is not at
all gratifying to say the least
The eminent editors who have been
poking fun at Walter Wellman’s peace
conference correspondepce now have
an opportunity to admit that Well-
man made some good guesses
It is announced that congress will
not be called together in extraordinary
session this fall It is well under-
stood that congress can do nothing in
five months just as easily as in six
Having won honors as a peacemak-
er in the Russ-Jap trouble President
Roosevelt should now undertake a
similar line of work with the stand-
patters and revisionists within his
own party
Senator Burkett of Nebraska re-
fused to speak at an old settlers'
picnic because his place on the pro-
gram was preceded by a vaudeville
stunt Being a strong advocate of
protection because it fosters home
competition Senator Burkett should
have carried out his share of the entertainment
Pebbles from Prolific Creek
The sick in this locality are improv-
ing rapidly
After the continued rain of four
days we are having fair weather
Mr and Mrs John Hollister have
been visiting their children across the
river
Frank Trigg and family spent Sun-
day over at A V Burton’s
Whitten Cecil has been quite sick
for the past few days It keeps Holt
busy doing chorse at both places
Frank Trigg has bought a fine team
of ponies If they were much “finer”
he would have to get a magnifying
glass to find them
Miss Lula Jones ha3 gone to Okla-
homa on a visit Wonder what Zeb
will do for a girl
Why most certainally not my good
woman of course he didn’t mean you
Didn’t you know that most of those
boom-8holls loaded with slurs slights
and ironical replies were aimed at
Pebbles’ head But being a good hand
to dodge hasn’t received any fatal
injuries as yet
We understand that Joe Hollister is
coming home from the far west (if he
doesn’t change his mind) in about an-
other week We will all be glad to
have Joe among us again for he is a
good pious and very industrious young
man and is well thought of by young
and old
Say we have an idea that there are
"niggers” closer home than KansaB
City which would appreciate that
rooster
We bear that D W Holt said that
he never gave any one authority to
inform Pebbles or any one else in re-
gard to his mortgage or corn crop
either but some people are so awfully
accommodationg Especially when
it comes to attending Borne one else’s
business
Mrs Baldwin came down last Sat-
urday and gave Mr Hammond orders
to vacate the premises within five
days They said they could move out
under the trees and have as good
shelter and lots more room
Last week was a fine time to gig
fish on the river and the people had
just got in earnest after their scaly
prey when the rain came and spoiled
all the sport
Say did you hear about those fel-
lows that started out to make a big -thing
baling hay ? Well there were
four of them beside their hired help
After they were done baling they be-
gan to figure up to see how much
they had each one made (baling his
own hay) Well they figured and
figured until their patience was ex-
hausted then they had their women
to figure for them but finally had to
give it up that instead of getting rich
they had gone into the hole Just
like the old fellow that peddled
peaches “Wasn’t worth a D and
still owed for the basket”
