By Falkenbury & Wells
Miami I T Friday Aug 4 1905
The Record-Ufbald will charge a nominal rate frojn this flute fm
all notices of church and society entertainments where admission is charged
or a fee taken for resolutions of respect cards of thanks obituary notices in
excess of ten liues and like matter not news
President Roosevelt refuses to allow his portrait in
itivertising matter but he accepts the first keg of the brew
A a new beer concern containing 60 cold bottles in meas-
ure as a testimonial But then these hot days a man is
hardly accountable for his actions
The Indian governors who have a dark brown taste for
separate statehood probably do not know that this terri-
tory took first prize on corn at the St Louis World’s expo-
sition and that it was raised by a white man And yet will
these chieftains persist in going on and raising particular
cane at Muskogee ?
The new State or the two new States to be created out
of the twin Territories will be a little bigger than Missouri
and mighty nearly as good Missourians are there in great
numbers — St Louis Republic
A round-up of the colored voters was called for this
week and Miami district’s chairman is Blue Thompson
of Bluejacket As there is not a person eligible in the
First Recording District for chairman nor a place suitable
the) parties who are “rounding-up” the colored man and
brother had to borrow both the man and the town from
the Vinita district But we are not kicking The convo-
cation took place at Muskogee Aug 2 3 and 4
The thing is out Robt L Owen stands sponsor for
the separate statehood propaganda Probably Bob would
like to go to the United States- senate !
The separate statehood program seems to be' in the
hands of the grafters and Muskogee boomers whose only
hope is to delay ultimate statehood for the twin territories
for therein lies their only hope of a new lease of life and
power And Muskogee is the town that will largely profit
by delay
Will Recording District No l(Quapaw Agency) which
is outside the pale of the Five Civilized Tribes be left out
in’ case the Muskogee separatists are successful in promot-
ing a separate state for Indian Territory? Probably they
propose to attach us by piecemeal ! '
It is now in ordeir for the allied tribes of the Qua-
paws Miarais Peorias Senecas Wyandottes Ottawas
Eastern Shawnees and Modocs composing the Quapaw
Agency to meet and declare for a separate state to be call-
ed Quapaw Our great zinc and lead mines entitle us t
distinction in this state-making business anyhow and
statehood conventions seem to be in order during thest
August days
To-day is the day that the
celebrates the anniversary of

The Baxter Springs papers go after the weeds in great
shape and are trying to rawhide everyone in line If ad-
vertising is so potent in the Kansas border town as it is
here we would expect to see no weeds there at all at all
Here the teams of farmers keep them tramped down See?
The Indian Territory constitution is probably up Bob
Owens’ sleeve ready to be pla3red at the right time This
separate statehood convention is going to do harm to the
two territories and probably knock us out of any statehood
for ten years About the time Congress has made up its
mind to do something along comes an excuse for not do-
ing it The separatists will furnish congress with the ex-
cuse for not doing its duty
Secretary Taft enroute to the Philippines has moved
on Tokio and captured the Mikado and his court with his
avoirdupois
These are the dog days of the weed nuisance The
mayor issues his proclamation that they must be cut but
they still grow and flourish like unto the green bay tree
Verily some say no mayor has the power to enforce citizens
to cut them but decency demands every good citizen to
do this in the interest of health
Cov Tom Ferguson of Oklahoma has annexed In-
dian Territory to his jurisdiction for statistical purposes
His forthcoming report will therefore be interesting to In-
dian Territory people for in it will be a compilation of of-
ficial figures that will do us good Aside from this he
treats the eastern portion of the “New Oklahoma” as part
of a commonwealth to be Another influence for joint
statehood 1

THE MUSKOGEE IDEA
Real Object of Constitutional
Convention to Defeat
Statehood
The issue of statehood has not a
more ardent supporter anywhere
than the St Louis Globe-Democrat
which sees in the Muskogee consti-
tutional convention scheme a craft-
ily laid plan to defeat statehood for
both Oklahoma and Indian Terri-
tory It is becoming more and more
evident says the G-D that many
of the persons enlisted in that Mus-
kogee separate statehood move-
ment are against statehood for
either Oklahoma or the Indian
Territory at this time A fconven-
tion of the 'Indian Territory sepa-
ratists will meet at Muskogee on
August 21 It will pass resolutions
in favor of the admission of Indian
Territory as a distinct state re-
gardless of Oklahoma Some Okla-
homa opponents of statehood in any
shape are said to be working with
the Indian Territory knockers al-
though of course they cannot be
and do not want to be represented
at Muskogee
If the defeat of statehpod of all
sorts for Oklahoma and the Indian
Territory be the object of the Mus-
kogee movement it is proceeding
in an intelligent way to accomplish
that purpose The chiefs of the
five civilized tribes are engineering
the Muskogee hold-up or whatever
else it is intended to'be It is said
that trie Indians believe their rights
would somehow be endangered if
Indian Territory were joined to Ok-
lahoma Their rights would also
be menaced if Indian Territory
were admitted separately The
whites iu Indian Territory im-
mensely outnumber the Indians
But th$ Indians are standing in
their own light it they keep up this
separatist movemeut Neither Ok-
homa uor the Indian Territory can
ever come into statehood unless
they come in as one commonwealth
This ought to be pretty plain to the
shrewd politicians who are at the
h-ad vf the Cherokees Creeks
Choctaws Chickasaws and Setni-
noles Those personages know as
much about the tricks of politics as
any white men in the West or the
country There is not the slightest
reas m to suppose that the Indians
of the Indian Territory will ever
find any of their rights assailed by
the white men who will help to
make their laws under statehood
As the Indians are far better organ-
ized than the whites it is safe to
assume that they could send to the
legislature and to congress a larger
number of their race than they are
entitled to on the basis of popula-
tion If the Indians are wise thev
will join with the Oklahoma people
in favor of joint statehood and thus
in the coming winter do something
which will immediately and im-
mensely advance the value of every
piece of property in the two terri-
tories Astorv is being told of a Siloam
young lady who found a package
of love letters that bad been written
to her mother by her father before
they were married The daughter
saw that she could have some sport
and read them to her mother sub-
stituting her own name for that of
her mother and that of a Six Mile
young man tor that of her father
The mother jumped up and down
in her chair shifted her feet and
and seemed utterly disgusted and
forbade her daughter to have any-
thing to do with the young man
who wrote such nonsensical stuff
to a girl When the young lady
handel the letter to her mother to
read the house became so still that
one could almost hear the grass
growing in the back yard
