Representative Long’s Speeoh
The following is the speech of
Representative Long made in
the House of Representatives in
support of the Hospital Bill re-
quiring the various railroads in
this state to build and maintain
a hospital within the state:
Mr Speaker and Gentlemen
of the Fifth Legislature:
If you will lend me your pa-
tience I will in my humble way
say a few words against the res-
olution offered by the gentleman
from Bryan County We have
in this land of ours today two
distinct classes of citizens — the
mighty rich and the weakly
'poor I believe we all appreciate
the fact that the rich in a large
measure have to and should
bear a larger burden in order to
protect the poor
When the gentlemen from
Bryan tries to re-commit this
bill he is simply trying to kill
a bill that will help those who
labor pr the sons of toil
I appreciate the fact that the
'railroad men have signed peti-
tions against this bill but I
tell you they were forced to
aign for fear they would lose
their positions and their fam-
ilies would be robbed of the
necessities of life and become
subjects of charity
Mr Speaker there is only one
issue — shall we help those who
need help or shall we align our
selves on the side of the corpora-
I tions who are gigantic and need
I no help I shall vote for those
who need and in conclusion I will
l say that the opposition to this
i bill comes from the corporation
attorney who is paid to advance
jide£s against labor and in fav-
jor of the great corporations of
the land
I thank you
By Long of Wagoner County
in favor of House Bill No 136
The Times is glad to say that
through the persistent efforts of
Representative Long the bill
above mentioned passed the
lower house and will doubtless
become a law
I Postoffice Inspector Here
Postoffice Inspector George
Lewis of Muskogee was here
I Tuesday of last week and after
investigating the matter refus-
1 ed to recommend to the depart-
ment the establishment of a pro-
posed rural route to extend
1 south and west from town This
doutbless means the death knell
' of the new route until a better
showing can be made
While here Mr Lew'is also
checked over the books of the lo-
cal potoffice and as usual found
everything balacing to a penny
This speaks well for the post-
master Geo'P Lawson and his
efficient office force

It is Not
Too Early
to begin thinking of your little garden patch
’ There is not a piece of ground on your farm
that will bring you such good returns for your
money as a small garden Plant it as early as
safe plant and tend it well and you will cut
your food bill to almost nothing
To the Man in Town
we would say Put in a small truck patch if it
is only 100 square feet in your back yard
This year of good rains should bring us good
gardens Then the exercise before anil after
business hours will do you good
Yours for a more prosperous community

“The Master Mind”
Quite a good many Cowetans
either witnessed or will remem-
ber that “The Master Mind”
was one of the best shows pre-
sented at the Hinton in Musko-
gee last year and to them it
will be especially gratifying to
learn that a motion picture pro-
duction on the play is to be
show-'i at our own Jewel Thea-
tre n£kt week - -
The Jesse L Lasky Feature
Play Co who produced “The
Squaw Man” and “The Only
Son” is responsible for “The
Master Mind” and as in the
former productions the same
celebrated actor who was orig-
inally starred in the legitimate
stage production when it was
first presented in New York
namely Edmund Breese is fea-
tured in the motion picture pro-
duction This in itself is
enough to insure the quality of
the offering This is the fifth
of a number of big stage suc-
cesses which Manager Leftwich
made special arrangements for
tc show at his house and if the
proDer patronage is accorded
the presentation of “The Mas-
ter Mind” it will be followed by
other big productions “The
Master Mind” comes in five reels
and is to be shown at the Jewel
next Thursday evening the
18th at prices of ten and twen-
ty cents
STOKY OF THE PI AY
Pledging to revenge the exe-
cution of his brother whom the
District Attorney caused to be
convicted Richard Allen known
in the underworld as the Mas-
ter Mind a quaint individual
who takes delight in concealing
his identity by playing the role
of a valet to an extravagant
young man in New York plots
for the downfall of the prose-
cutor and educates his cleverest
female crook “Three Arm Fan-
ny” with a view to having her
fascinate and marrying the
District Attorney
The Master Mind under var-
ious disguises informs the Dis-
trict Attorney that he will re-
ceive the four aces at certain
intervals and when he receives
the ace of spades the end will be
near
Richard Allen known as the
Master Mind conceives many
diabolical plots looking for-
ward to the ruination of his ene-
my the District Attorney and
finally succeeds in arousing his
anger and jealousy and is about
to crush the unsuspecting At-
torney when “Three Arm Fan-
hy” who has really fallen in
love with her husband pleads
with the Master Mind to with-
draw and the Master Mind who
has come to love Fanny him-
self does withdraw through
love for her and disappears to
be seen no more
The powerful gang of crooks
over which he held a formid-
able leadership is disbanded
and the District Attorney not
knowing that Fanny is a re-
formed crook goes on in his own
way becomes Governor of the
State and everything ends as
it should
