The iced tea season which had a decided
hack set last week is again “in full blast”—
whatever that means
The trust has raised the price of print paper
10 per cent at the ndills and we have now no hope
of ever buying that airship
The Republican horse show at Chicaga is
certain to have a large number of entries of the
dark variety Going to be a hoss on somebody
too

coinage of three-cent pieces and the Kansas City

Kansas City)
Messrs Taft and Roosevelt were both cam-
paigning in Ohio last week hut as they kept

A Missouri editor lost his mind last week and
is supposed to have wandered away to Mexico
his trouble being due to working sixteen hours a
day Glad we heard of it Henceforth we shall

Monday’s press reports say Taft supporters
look favorably upon a compromise giving the
nomination for President to Justice Hughes of
New York That settles it — its the sponge throw
up and Teddy is the man we’il have to beat
Easy job unless a majority of the people want
to Mexicanize these United States
Collier’s Weekly unable to think of any logi-
cal argument to urge against Champ Clark’s
candidacy observes with nose in lofty scorn tip-
tilted that there is “nothing back of Sneaker
Clark save his personal popularity” As person
al popularity so widely spread as Mr Clark's can
be founded upon nothing save sterling personal
qualities not even the most enthusiastic friend of
the Speaker could present a more convincing ar-
gument in his favor
EAST OKLAHOMA IN SUPREME COURT
t “It is well known that no Republican cau
succeed in Wagonei county in securing anv office
without the aid and assistance of the negro "ote
We speak for the negro voters i f Wagoner coun
ty that we condemn the method that was pur-
sued by Mr! Ownby and his associates and by
the Eternal God we will defeat them for any-
thing they might ask for in the gift of the party”
So speaks Wagoner American organ of the
colored people in this section and no threat could
be more plain
The negroes through their mouth piece an-
nounce that they intend to rule things in I his
county and dictate who snail or shall not lie elect-
ed to office They claim that Noel C Ownhy and
other “would he Republicans " who live in and
around Coweta are “Lily Whites" who desire
to establish a white man’s party when in fact it
is the negroes themselves with such iiold threats
that they will dominate politics who will drive
the white men of all parties together to p-otect
themselves against negro domination
Can the negroes learn notli’iig from a study
of conditions in the Southern States where ex-
actly such a condition obtains! There is piacii-
cally only one party in the Suuili — the white
man's party — backed by American manhood and
shot-guns
Oklahoma people have no desire that such
methods should find foothold in this state and
they will not so long as our negro popui it ion oti
serve the law and vote as independent citizens
But once let the idea get out that the negioes are
going to vote as a unit and f rce their rule upon
the community as indicated by such hold threats
as the above from the American and they will
find the civic rights they new enjoy still further
abridged and their cl iws trimmed to a point as
suring safety to a community they would rule
or ruin
If there are any laws in this state which the
negroes consider unjust and appress ve let them
agitate their grievances prove their contentions
and they will have the assistance and support of
all right thinking people irrespective of party
But when they announce their intention of run-
ning everything to suit themselves they will
alienate all their friends among the whites and
do themselves irreparable injury

SOUND ADVICE TO READERS
A case of wide interest to eastern Oklahoma
is to be heard in the Federal su- reme court next
Monday This is the habeas c rpus case of Chas
Webb of Vinita who is char ed wieh introducing
liquor into this part of the s’ ate
It is expected that this decision by the court
of last resort will finally et at rest the many
questions that have lately arisen in the construe
tion and enforcement c” the various statutes re-
garding the shipment ami sale of alcoholic liquors
in this old Indian Territory part of the state
While the case is to be heard next Mondav
it may be two or three weeks before the court
hands down the decis an Such is generally the
course pursued by th s tribunal
LAFOLLE' IE THE FORSAKEN
For one year 1 e stood forth as the chosen of
the disspo'ors 'n their name he gave challenge
to tin a i-nisti ion assailed its policies oppos
ed n ’-s and maintained persistent unweary
ing a-s nt up Taft
Neve b ore in the history of the country did
a prusni-ut so early in his work face such organ-
ized and venomous enmity Hardly had he taken
his seal and long before he could properlv organ-
ize his a i ninistration the arrows of cmiciam be
gau to re n upon him Scarcely a day passed but
what the wires Hashed news of some new bone of
contention
The man from Wisconsin did his work well
Unwittingly but splendidly he played the cat’s
paw and kept the public mind clawed into a state
of irritation until sore with imagination it pro-
tested for relief
And then when the hour of his opportunity
was at la-t at hand and he reached out to grasp
the presi ental nomination lo! there came anoth-
er multi uillnous of tooth ancLraucous of voice
and those who had worn the mask of friendship
first fell away from La Follette and then fell upon
him
Of course this is mors or less conjecture (less
rather ' i an more) and those of you who are wise
! in the ay of politics and those of you who think
for yo ii selves may judge as you please but to
our hii ii hie editorial mind it appears that the sen
' ator from Wisconsin was not only handed a gold
brick but was slugged with it as well'— Herbert

A few of our subscribers do not like some ot
the things they read in this newspaper Neither
do we But you are at liberty to pick out what
you do like and leave the rest for those who are
not so fastidious You know what they call a
man who sits down to a first class hotel dinner
and beginning at the first item on the bill of fare
tries to eat every dish mentioned thereon This
newspaper presents a varied bill of fare every
week but there is no law compelling you to de-
vour every portion of it Just put aside what
you do not relish and say nothing about it others
may like it And don’t swear at the editor be-
cause he happens to miss an item Its both
wicked and foolish He cannot be in all places
at once and many items are so elusive and hard
to get Call him up by phone and tell him about
the item and he will thank you for in many in-
stances the item may he important and mean a
real boost for the town — Rivirside (Wash)

THE CITY OF VILE SENSATIlNS
Just now Tulsa civically one of the state’s
most enterprising and progressive cities but mor-
ally so rotten that it is sometimes called “Okla
homa’s Tenderloin District” is reeking in the de-
tails of a vulgar and sensations1 mnr r trial— a
prominent lawyer having been mir ered by a
jail bird employed by the victim’s wife and her
illicit lover so the prosecution contends
But Tulsa is accustomed to such immoral
and degenerate passages in it’s scarlet history
Tile breath of scandal seems to have settled per
manently on the community anil the chaiacter of
of every respectable citizen residing (here is
clouded by these entirely too frequent tales of
martial infidelity
That famous road house Taneha about
which a story was published broadcast two years
ago that reflected on the reputation of every wife
and mother in the city and noted for its open de-
fiance of law and order is Tulsa's “very own”
and here the most debasing and vulgar revels are
of nightly occurrence
Oklahoma bows it’s head in shame—

A news dispatch says 200 miles of Yukon
Valley Alaska is “a seething holocaust” We
know what seething means but wish we kDew
how a holocaust looks when it seeths Ever see
one doing it?
- If the statements Col Roosevelt makes are
true regarding certain things he charges Presi
dent Taft with doing and which things the Pres
ident denies having done then the President is
not a truthful man And if the Colonel’B deliber-
ate statement is untrue then he is a falsifier of
the first magnitude Then reverse the names
and there you have another truism Hence they
both are bound to be liars— no escape from it
