THE RALSTON FREK PRESS, FRIDAY, JULY 14, 1905
Tin Them fewa.
The wholesale grocerymen are
visiting the farm houses over the
country at present and are
soliciting orders for stuff from
all the people. The duty of the
farmer is to turn these people
who carry out of the country the
money the home merchant de-
serves. He is the man who
gives you credit and borrows at
ten per cent to pay his own
obligations just to accommodate
you. He never skins you and
gives you all the time you need
when you are in traightened cir-
cumstances. If you are sick he
sits up with you and when your
barn burns and lightning strikes
the house he is the first to head
the subscription list that some
fellow starts. Don't load your-
self down with a lot of groceries
that you can buy just as cheap
and often rofm the home mer-
chant. He stays by you year
after year and dcsn't swear at
the country when it is too wet
or too dry for his business. You
owe him what you have in the
way of purchases and it is really j
due him. You get a package of
green goods in more ways than
one when you invest in the
foreign man's talk. Don't take
a shot in the dark when you can
have the opportunity to take it
in daylight. Stand by your
home man and see how quickly
you will hear of better times all
around.—Chandler News.

The population figures for the
year 1905 will not be available
for computation for some weeks
yet. These figures, which are
authentic and reliable, show that
the population of the territory
has not been much, if any over-
estimated. It is believed that
Oklahoma can easily show a
population of three-quarters of a
million people at the present
time.

How Failure is Possible.
It was to have been expected,
says the Oklahoma City Times-
Journal, that some one or more
of the editors, who visited the
territory would have gone home
and written vicious attacks on
the territory and on the people.
Among the thousands of people
in the newspaper business a few
evil, uglytetnpered creatures
may be found who denounce
everything which comes within
their observation, but in the
case of the visit of the editors to
Oklahoma not a word has been
written by them as far r.s we
are able to learn, which could
cause the least resentment on
the part of the people of the
territory. Every article writ-
ten by these men was in praise
of the wonderful fertility of the
soil, of the well kept farms and
thriving towns and cities.
Every article tells of the fact
that the people of the territoreis
should be granted statehood,
and with this declaration goes a
million and a half of people.
It would be hard to over esti-
mate the effect these articles will
have on the cause for which the
people fight. The whole country
is being appraised of the fact
that the people of the two terri-
tories very much desire to enter
the union and stand on the same
footing as other states. The
people of every section are being
informed of the fact lhat the
territories are settled by people
of the Caucasian race and that
the settlements are permanant
and that 1,500,000 people cry for
simple justice when they ask for
the right to govern themselves.
These editors are breaking
down every barrier to admission
and as far as conditions bearing
onthis question from without
are concerned success is assured.
Not a congressman or senator
will oppose statehood unless the
people within the territories
manufacture reasons for such
opposition. If a fight is sprung
in congress, excuse for the fight
must have its origin within the
territories. Opposition fron*
without has been silenced and if
the same harmony prevails with-
in the territory as has always
held here, statehood will
before the Christmas holidays.
