For art Work the pupils are
divided into 10 groups to make
vegetable posters The project
serves a 3-fold purpose: science
art and room decoration
For a study of seeds how they
sprout and grow the class chose

8EYBNTH GRADE
The seventh graders have been
learning the use of the protract-
or in math class They have been
drawing angles measuring ang-
les and 'making circle graphs
To make it more enjoyable they
tried the art of drawing designs
and pictures with the protractor
Two films were shown in geo-
graphy class Monday: “The Bark
Cloth People of Africa” and “The
Geological Work of Ice”
Puppets are being made in arte
and crafts and the students are
writing plays to bo used in their
puppet show
Eddie Van Jones had - charge
of the seventh grade devotional
Monday morning in the English
room
The class - enjoyed Sue Ogle’s
new Japanese doll sent to her by
her brother in Japan The doll
was packed with Japanese news-
papers which Sue generously
shared with her classmates
EIGHTH GRADE
Judy Gibson has been selected
by the clasa to be their repre-
sentative in the annual spelling
bee
Each student is writing an es-
say on “What Can Be Done to
Prevent Erosion of the Land in
My Community”- Much interest
has been aroused and there is
much research going on
Last minute studying for the
nine weeks tests is found in ail
classes especially by those who
are trying to be “honor students”
to usher at the junior high com
mencement -
Of 695 drivers in fatal acci
dents in Oklahoma during 1955
the number who had been drink-
ing totaled 102 or about sixteen
percent
Of all drivers involved in fa-
tal accidents during 1955 in- Okla-
homa about eighty-four percent
were committing a traffic viola-
tion at the time of the accident
During -1956 68260 drivers
were involved in traffic accidents
in Oklahoma Of the sex 10465
were women and 47098 were men
The sex was not stated in 697
cases
Nearly ten percent of the dri-
ven involved in fatal accidents
in Oklahoma last year had no
driver’s license

trict Music Elimination Moat is
held for area bands glaa dubs
and mixed chorus groups
“Deadline for entriea is Friday
March 9” said Raymond Kelbon
tournament chairman and director
of the East Central band
Kelton indicated that a probable
25-30 bands would participate
with about the same number of
glee clubs and mixed choruses
“Thera will be approximately 850
instrumental and vocal esemblea”
he said
Music groups or ' individuals
who receivej a first division rat-
ing at the meet here will qualify
for the state contest Instrumen-
tal section of the state contest
will he held at Oklahoma Univers-
ity while Oklahoma AAM college
will handle the vocal and piano

A separate contest will be held
in each authorised event for
students of the 7th 8th and 9th
grades These contest will be judg-
ed on junior highschool stan-
dards Schedule of events calls for tha
following: Wednesday and Thurs-
day band and all instrumental
solos and ensembles from Class
A BB B C D and DD schools
Friday Mixed Chorus and glee
club plus all vocal solos and
small ensembles Saturday piano
A total of $864 in Red Cross
campaign funda had been turned
into the chapter office in Oke-
mah The driVa in Weleetka has
not started but Chairman Lee
Tenney said it would got under-
way later this month
The amount turned in represent-
ed a small- area in the residential
section and three teams of tho
business district Workers are urg-
ed to complete thalr calls aa soon
as possible and report to tha chap-
ter office in the city hall
