transient service by the Salvation
Army last peer wai a resident of
Oklahoma Colonel W W Bou-
terse state commsnder reports
Last year the Salvation army
In Oklahoma assisted 811967
transient persons Of this num-
ber 5212 made their home in
this state Contrary to what many
people think the Colonel said
all transients are not bums The
majority are good honest citisens
who for some reason have been
forced to go to another locale
because of current conditions
Employment he continued is
one of the chief factors A man
In a particular skill finds his
work slack and goes to another
city where he has heard work
could be found This move gen-
erally is not made until he has
used every resource to try to
find employment in his own
borne town By this time Us fi-
nancial resources are also de-
pleted and he hasn’t sufficient
- funds to travel properly He of-
ten finds himself stranded and
without funds before the job is
secured Tho Salvation Army
transient care tfives him lodging
meals and s boost while his en-
deavors to get situated
He added that a surprising
number of women and children get
stranded and need' emergency
transient care Many are enrouto
to the new town- where the hus-
band has found employment and
has sent for them What he
thought was sufficient funds to
go all the way often is not Other
cases involve mothers and chil-
dren whose husbands have de-
serted and they are trying to
make it to kin people
