PRESIDENT IS “TIRED
OF BEIN6 LIED ABOUT
Speech of Taft at Toledo De-
clared to Be Most Bitter of
Any Yet Delivered
Toledo Ohio May 18 — ‘'Tve
got tired being lied about and
held up to the country as having
violated every rule of conduct
when 1 am not conscious that 1
have violated any” shouted
President Taft here tonight in
the course of a speeoh to a crowd
that tilled every available seat
and blocked the aisles of the
Toledo auditorium
Mr Taft’s speech was one of
the most bitter he ha3 made
since he began to answer the
charge of Col Roosevelt and to
use hot shot of his cwn The
President bluntly charged that
Walter Brown of Toledo one of
the Roosevelt leaders here had
ceased to be a Taft supporter
because the President refused to
accept his recommendations for
judicial appointments He de-
clared the oppsition to him on
the part of Dan Hanna of Cleve-
land came as a consequence of
indictments against Mr Hanna
by the Taft Department of Jus-
tice N
After the President entered
the hall here hundreds of people
remained outside unable to gain
entrance and besieged the police
It was the most demonstrative
gathering Mr Taft has address-
ed on his present trip
The President’s unusual bitter-
ness toward Mr Roosevelt was
apparent from the first He
launched immediately into ac-
cusations of unfairness upon
the part of his predecessor
“The memory of the names
Mr Rooevelt has called me”
said the President “still lingers
in my ears Since be began his
personal attacks on me he has
dollar
cost
I mean to

The orchard and the garden
are veuy important factors on a
farm for keeping down the cost
of living Fruits an dl vegetables
white it costs little to produce
them under ordinary farm con-
ditions save ttie cost of iiving
Few people place tha proper
estimate upon the poultry With
plenty of eggs and friers in sea
son the exoense of the home can
be reduced very materially The
framer who has plenty of eggs
and a fowl occasionally need not
buy fresh meat often But fowls
require attention and those who
expect poultry products without
some time and laoor will be dis
appointed
Corn shou'd be thinned to cor-
respond to the soilonyour farm
It is a serious mistake to leave
the plants toj close in the drill
just as it in to have the rows too
close The best plan is to leave
the plants closer than you ex
pect them to stand until nearly
ready to “lay by” then go over
the field and cut out the surplus
plants always taking out the
weakest and leaving the most
promising specimens
