DEAR OLD DAD
your dear Old Dad for remem
ber he is your mother’s sweet
heart and has always been you
banker
Your father might not have
been an angel always Few men
are in a hurry to be angels But
your dear Old Dad has been your
friend through thick and thin
He has always brought home the
Beech Nut
In his declining days do for
him what he has done for you
Tbe great art of living after a I and the happiness in your heart
certain age is to grow old grace'
fully and without remorse
It ia not my hope to hang
around on earth after the fashion
of old age is out of style neither
do I want to live after the wick
lacks oil
My ambition in Life ia some
day to write a line or two that
will throw light on the pathway
of men and ahow them my mis
takes that have been proved up
I am nearly the 57 varieties of
years and still there is a song in I districts
my heart that sounds for all the 1
world like that of a kid on hia
way to the old awimmin’ hole
Each evening brings me ex
actly what I have given to the
day but there is after all some-
thing like sadness in this idea of
growing old
Take the dear Old Dad He
yearna for tbe yeara of youth
He looks back to boyhood He
was once right where you are
now and how it hurts him when
he thinks of it! Not that he is
will fit you to some day be

"A FOOLISH BARRIER
In some communities they are
still nursing an old barrier of
jealousy between town and coun-
try residents Some people take
particular delight in keeping a
live a feeling of animosity be-
tween those who dwell in town
and those who dwell in the rural
adjoining in They
seem to delight in throwing
barriers in the way of country
residents when they come to
town on business and enjoy
Bhowing off” in every way
possible when they have occasion
to go into the country These
kind of people are a drawback to
any community There is no
reason on earth for a barrier be
tween town and country All of
us are just about the same
regardless of where we live and
the country roads are but exten
envious of you but he is envious 1 8j0ns of the streets in town We
of youth
And here’s my suggestion:
Make a comrade of your dear Old
Dad Help him to live in hia old
age in a way that will be like a
lusty winter Don’t put him
couldn’t get along without those
people living outside the town
— the town would die in three
months And people out in rural
sections find the town and its
business places too convenient to
do without So if there is a
single resident of Soper who
live this
with his antiques

some reason Hainan was given chief
place over the princes Though all
bowed before him Mordecal Esther's
cousin stoutly refused to do so
2 Its Nature (vv 7-15) Homan
desired to lay bands upon Mordecal for
his Insubordination but hesitated In-
stead of snch drastic action he laid a
plot to destroy all the Jews and there-
by take vengeance on Mordecat who
he learned was a Jew He made tbe
king believe that the Jews were an un-
profitable people and Induced him to
order their annihilation promising to
bring Into the royal treasury an enor-
mous sum of money
III Haman’a Plot Foiled (4(1-9:14)

3 Esther’s Daring Adventure (4 :16-
5:2) Mordecal iolnted out to her that
her own life waa endangered She
might meet death by venturing Into
the king’s presence She would surely
meet death were Hainan's plot not
foiled When thus brought fscs to
face with duty the heroism which so
frequently has characterized her race
moved her to undertake the hazardous
task and prayerfully carry It out
After three days of fasting and prayer
she put on ber royal apparel and stood
In the king's court winning his ap-
proval 4 Esther Pleading for Her People
(5:8-T:8) Esther knew that an easy
way to the heart of the king was
through his stomach so she Invited
him and Hainan to a banquet She
proposed a second banquet at which
she planned to make her request
known During the Interval some
strange things took place A gallows
was built upon which to hnng Morde-
cal at the hearties suggestion of Ha-
man's wife And the king during a
sleepless night was moved to search
the court records where he found that
Mordecal had not been rewarded for
saving his life So In order to ex-
press his appreciation for this act of
heroism on the part of Mordecal he
gave orders obliging Human to do hon-
or to the one he was preparing to
hang At the second banquet Esther
pointed out Hainan's wicked plot to
kill the Jews and asked of the king
that her people he saved In his wratli
