Tuesday afternoon a committee
of the Choctaw Council of De-
fense went to Caddo where they
got Rev Chas F Reese a
minister of the Christian Church
and brought him back to Soper
about 11 o’clock where the lo-
cal council of defense assisted
by the Hugo bunch with their
tried leather strap gave him a
hearing followed by a whipping
he will remember the rest of
his days
It came to the council of de-
fense that the preacher had been
writing letters detrimental to the
Red Cros3 and to the war gen-
erally The council had the
j letters in its possession as evi-
dense and read them to him and
he acknowledged writing them
jln a letter written the latter
part of last December he made
remarks against the Red Cross
and when faced with the ac-
cusation said that he wrote the
letter before the espionage act
went into effect
In another letter he stated
that he would die before he
I would go to war which he did
Ttf not deny
There was evidence produced
showing that he had wrecked
-0 the home of one of our best
0 families and after the hearing
P i hs was stretched across a barrel
0 and given a good whipping with
0 the leather strap and given a
p' coat of yellow paint and ordered
0 to leave Choctaw County and to
‘quit preaching He started out
& afoot with his suit cases and the
0 ’ crowd decided to get his clean
clothes out of the suit cases so r

Women’s Committee of
National Defense
The following points are em-
braced in the ethics of the flag
and national air on which the
general public should be in-
formed: When “The Star Sprangled
Banner” is played— Civilians
should arise men should re-
move their hats and stand at at-
tention They should remain standing
until the air is finished
If walking on the street they
should stop and stand at at-
tention Soldiers should stand at at-
tention and salute when the
national anthem is played
The American Flag—
When the Stars and Stripes is
displayed the union should be al-
ways up and to the right
When projecting from a build-
ing on a staff the union should
be always out farthest from the
building and up
When hanging from a window'
or within a building the union
should be to the right of those
facing it
The flag should never touch
the ground
When flying from the top of a
building the flag should always
be raised to the top of the staff
If displayed at half masit should
go to the top first and then be
lowered
When taken down even though
at half mast the flag should
first be raised to the top of the
mast
Soldiers should salute the flag
only when displayed For that
reason while on a march the flag
the is encased
The campaign of Americani-
zation which will be waged dur-
ing the month of August by the
Oklahoma State Council of De-
fense will embrace a chapter on
education on the respect due the
American flag and the “Star
Spangled Banner”
A recent recommendation
made by the State Council was
that all school district councils of
defense in Oklahoma should
have displayed at headquarters
a service flag containing a star
for each man sent by that dis-
trict to the army or navy and
under each star the name of the
young man which it represents
If a man is killed a gold star
will be substituted above the
man’s name
This has been adopted in
several school districts and by a
number of large schools and institutions
