A LEMON PARTY
One of the delightful events of
the season was a lemon party given
by Parke Troutt at his home on East
Second street Friday evening Sept
1st to a number of his young friend
At about 8:00 o’clock pm the guosts
tegan to arrive some remaining
the lawn which was specially pre-
pared for the occasion others repair-
ing to the parlors Singing conser-
vation etc were the diversions of
the evening At the game of word-
forming Misses Evelyn Ballard and
Aldace Donohoo won first prize and
Misses May Hubbard and Luciie Nid-
lffer second prize
At about 10:00 o’clock refreshments
were served and for awhile hilarities
ceased to satisfy the craving of the
inner man Near 11:00 oclock the
guests took their departure heartily
expressing to their host and to Dr
and Mrs Troutt’s sister Mrs Mc-
Cullough their appreciation of a most
enjoyable evening

A' NARROW ESCAPE
W A Ogden and family of Afton
had an experience Sunday which they
will not soon forget In attempting
to ford Grand River above the bridge
they drove into deep water and the
harness broke Mr Ogden was able
to control the horse till he got free
from the surrey He left his family
in the vehicle and went for assist-
ance The river was rising rapidly
and by the time he returned with
help the surrey had begun to float
down stream to deeper water and it
was with difficulty that they were
rescued Had assistance been delay-
ed a few minutes It would have been
too late to save them His wife and
small boy was in the surrey — Grove
