The Afton American Has En-
larged It’s Equipment and
Will Move Into New
Quarters
Ry the first of next month The
Afton American will he established
in its new quarters the England
building ini Main street which is
now being' completed for that pur-
pose The American ha purchased a
Country Campbell power pres
which will print four page at a
time and at the rale of one thousand
papers per hour It is 6ur intention
to increase the size of the paper ly
printing eight page of home print
instead of six (which in addition to
the ready print ha made it a ten-
pnge pajier) Tin will be done if
we can secure a small amount more
of advertising to justify the enlarge-
ment and judging by the past we
have no doubt on that score
Power will lie applied to nil our
printing machinery possible and the
American can say without boasting
that it plant will consist of an
equipment of the best to be found in
any country oflico and will lie far
ahead of many plant in town three
or four times the size of Afton We
have faith in the town and have
come to stay and whatever faitli
ami hustle we may have put in the
business ha made these improve-
ments an absolute necessity The
people of Afton and vicinity have
shown their appreciation by re-
sponding with patronage which this
equipment i necessary to take care
of
Not only in machinery have we
added to the plant but the aniount
of type and printing material has
been trebled since the American
started Two hundred pounds of
bo'ty type have been just ad Jed as
well as about twenty-five more new
faces of display type rules border
and everything in the way of print-
ing material to turn out first class
work There is no job from a
dainty calling card to a four page
poster which we cannot execute
witli neatness and despatch
We solicit your support and pa-
tronage in the way of advertising
job work and subscription from a
strictly business stand point and
will guarantee you value for value
in every deal

HIS COUNTRY
ABOVE PARTY
Oklahoma Senator Says no
Democrat Should be Nom-
inated Against Man
Like Murdock
In a remarkable interview given
Saturday Thomas 1’ (lore Okla-
homa' blind senator declared that
the Democratic party might not to
nominate candidate for congress
against such men as Victor C Mur-
dock of Kansas ami the rest of the
twelve anti-Cannon KepulJicaus in
the house of representatives
“And I suppose there will be
those who will cry aloud “TREA-
SON” Senator (tore said “hut if
that be treason let them make the
most of it I place my country
above my party
“I do not believe fidelity to party
require a man to be unfaithful to
his country If it does it i an
overdraft on my party loyalty
“Murdock and those men from
Iowa— all the aiiti-Cannou twelve
there should be iio democrat iceandi
date against them in their districts
“W e ought at least to give them
oyr moral influent e and help them
to defeat thu Caution standpat re-
publicans Where there are Can-
non men— standpatters — especially
those where the mos grow on
their backs triils the ground on
whicli they walk there should be a
reasonable hope of enough assis-
tance from progressive republican
to defeat them
“I would rather see a good re-
publican in congress than a bad
democrat There is no question
that there are some person in the
democratic party who ought to be
in the republican party and some
person in the republican party who
ought to be in the democratic
party
“Ait exchange of prisoners a
reciprocal granting of passports
might be of some value
As Others Think
We publish herew ith a commun-
ication about the Frisco which is in
touch w itli what is doing and what
ha failed to be done The letter
follows:
Tulsa Okla July 22 1909
Friends:
What’s the matter with “Afton
people?” Don't you know you can’t
fool the Frisco? Reiter get busy
if you want a good big yard and
teruinal there otherwise it will go
to Yinita or some other place
Yours truly
L L Donahoo
The above wa addressed to one
of our well known citizen and we
can now say in reply that Afton
ba “gotten busy” and every thing
is lovely although we deemed to be
dallying with fate for quite awhile
Afton is a stayer when she gets
startl'd although rather conservative
in the matter of starting
An Elegant Home

LARGE TOWER TANK
IS ABOUT COMPLE TED
Workmen Have Practically Finished
Their Task Which Was Carried On
At a Dizzy Height
All eye In the city have been turned
for many daj on the tower and water
tank on which workmen have leen
moving around in their work looking
like pygmies against the sky This
ha been a task which was of rattier
herculean proportion and required
nerve and skill for not every one is
so constituted that ho can work at
a great height!) alxive the ground and
retain hi usual ordinary jxdso Ad-
ded to tills tiie heat of tiie sun on some
days in the middle portion was so
terrific tliut work insido the huge
iron tank was well nigh imxjssihlp
The large sections of the lxiilcr were
hoisted to place by machinery hut
sometimes the wind took a hand mak-
ing it a rather precarious propo-
sition About Our Advertising
It has leen the theory of The Afton
American to always give to It read-
ers more reading matter than most
pajiers and thereby make it a welcome
new s-earrier enjoyed by all Acting
on this theory we have kept the front
pugc clear of advertising so t lie re
would lx plenty of room for iinjxir-
tuut items Conditions have changed
and modified thi idea to a certain ex-
tent the main tiling being tliut the pa-
x r ha tx-en enlarged two more pa-
ges This give room for plenty of
reading mutter throughout the ten
pages and which for the advertisers
makes ull the inside pages equally
g od
Now therefore thi relieves the
strain of having to fill the front puge
with pure reading mutter anil we can
pluee a limited numU-r of advertise-
ments on the front page without weak-
ening its standard in giving ull the
news in the least
If a puper does not have good ad-
vertising support it cannot Is-sr the
strain and exenso of U-ing a tip-top
news promoter
We will ueeept a limited umouut of
advertising for tiie front page with
the guarantee tliut the news end of tiie
p tiller will be stronger instead of
weaker than before Thi offer is
open to every merchant or business
firm alike hut not more than one-
half page in size will!! accepted at
rates as published elsewhere No
one will lie favored alxne another
and the preferable locution i cer-
tainly worth the difference in price
First come first served with the in-
terests of our advertisers and readers
at heart first last and always
Attractive Window Display
An esecially novel and attractive
displav is to lie seen in one of the
middle window of the Livingston
Department Store and which shows
the artistic touch and arrangement of
Floyd Fitts who lias quite a reputa-
tion as a window trimmer Tiie dis-
play is mude up entirely of front page
covers of the Ladies' Homo Journal
on which i a ix'autiful picture of tiie
“Summer Girl"’ at the seashore An
oil derrick pipe lines and a rustic
log cabin In ail their completeness
are made entirely from these and in
variably cause the passerby to halt in
admiration
