NEW SUPERINTENDENT
EMPLOYED
Mr Carl Bledsoe superintendent
of schools at Rosston Oklahoma has
been the selection of the local board
of education to succeed Dale A
Hughey aa superintendent of the
local school system Mr Bledsoe has
served as heal of the Ross ton system
for the past two years He had serv-
ed previously In the system as a
teacher The new superintendent is
a graduate of Phillips university of
Enid He will complete his Master's
degree from the same school this
summer Mr Bledsoe has a wife and
three year old daughter His work
in the local system will start as of
July L
TEACHERS ATTENDED
DISTRICT MEETING
The local teachers attended the
District Teachers Meeting in Alva
March 20 Dr Dan Proctor president
of Oklahoma College for Women
was the main speaker during the
morning session Group meetings
were held during the morning and
afternoon sessions A play was pre-
sented by a college group during
the evening session
STUDENTS PARTICIPATED
‘ IN FESTIVALS '
Approximately 17S students from
the Jet schools participated in the
county music festivals These in-
cluded the high school division
upper and lower grade groups Mrs
Thelda Delmarter directed the local
groups in- preparation for these
events

In District Meet
Approximately fifty students from
the high school will participate in
the district contest scheduled for
April and 10 at Alva Glee clubs
and Individual numbers will com-
prise most of the entries
Tkach Meet April 11
The Alfalfa county track meet
will be held in Cherokee Saturday
April 11 Both high school and grade
teams will enter from the local
schools Due to so many conflicting
activities during the season many
students have been limited in prac-
tice but a fair sized squad will rep-
resent the school in the county meet

in Oklahoma City last Saturday The
group was accompanied by Mrs
McKinney Mrs Ralph Collins Mrs
Emro Robbins Mrs Edna Fuson and
Superintendent and Mrs Hughey
The group spent Saturday night in
the city returning home Sunday af-
ternoon Track season at Jet high school
has gotten off to a slow start as the
boys services are in demand in many
places but they are slowly round-
ing into shape for the meets that
will start Friday April 3 at Fair-
view The boys who have been
working the hardest and are getting
their form down in good shape are
Jim Kolesar Dick Dale Jerry Yod-
er Buddy Archer Ray Potter Jim
Whitley and Paul Blackledge
Jim Kolesar has been tossing the
shot in good form and should be a
big threat in the county meet on
April 11 at Cherokee Jerry Yoder
has displayed the most speed to date
with 107 in the 100 yd dash Ray
Potter and Buddy Archer are work-
ing on the hurdles and high Jump
and pole vault while Dick Dale Jim
Whitley and Paul Blackledge are
distance runners
Probable entrants in the meet at
Fairview Friday will be Jim Kole-
sar in the shot and discus Jerry
Yoder in the 880 relay Ray Potter
high jump and 880 relay The other
two legs of the relay team have not
been determined as yet but in the
running are Jim Caywood Virgil
Giles and Paul Blackledge
The home economics teachers
from Dacoma Alva Cherokee Way-
noka and Jet met in the home eco-
nomics room at Jet Tuesday from
4:00 to 6:00 pm They met for the
purpose of working on the new
home economic course of study for
Oklahoma
Senior 4-H News
The Jet Senior 4-H club had a
meeting April first
We voted to attend the Methodist
church on 4-H Sunday April 24
Grace Gutty gave the girls indi-
vidual demonstration entitled "Mak-
ing a Buttonhole"
Charles Vincent gave the boys'
timely speech entitled "Pure Water
is Essential to Good Health”
Jimmy Stoabs and Bob Wespe
gave the boys’ team demonstration
entitled “Rose Cuttings"
Mrs Lucille Shaklee and her
nephew Michael Shaklee visited
our meeting Visitors are always

Fred Oliver Shaklee eon of Peter
Worthington and Artlissa Shaklee
was born February 11 1885 in Jack-
eon county Kansas He passed away
at 9:00 pm March 26 1953 in St
Mary's hospital Enid Oklahoma at
the age of 68 years 1 month and 15
days
On January 14 1914 he was unit-
ed in marriage with Ida Edith Ward
To this union were bom three sons
and two daughters: Don Ivan of Jet
Captain Harold O 6f Wichita Falls
Texas Merwyn J of Jet and Mrs
Thelma Wiseman of Ardmore Ok-
lahoma He was preceded in death
by one daughter Alyce Mildred in
1935 He is survived by eleven
grandchildren two sisters Mrs Os-
car Maxey Mrs Albert Maxey
three brothers Pearl Mont and Clif-
ford all of Enid and numerous
nieces and nephews Three brothers
preceded him in death
At the age of 14 years Mr Shak-
lee Joined the Methodist church
He moved from Enid to Medford
Oklahoma where ha was a member
of the official board in the Metho-
dist church
In 1928 Mr Shaklee with his fam-
ily moved into the Jet community
locating on a farm 4 miles south and
one mile west of Jet near the
Timberlake church Ha took an ac-
tive part in the community and
church affairs and served on the Jet
school board for 8 years He was
superintendent of the Timberlake
church for many years later joined
the First Methodist church of Jet
and waa a member of the board of
trustees and helped with the build-
ing of the new church both finan-
cially and spiritually
He was a good neighbor good
father and faithful husband
He always leaned to watch for us
Anxious if we were late
In winter by the window
In summer by the gate
And though we mocked him tender-
ly Who had such foolish care
The long way home would seem
more safe
Because he waited there
His thoughts were all so full of us
He never could forget!
And so I think that where he is
He must be watching yet
Waiting till we come home to him
Anxious if we are late
Watching from heaven’s window
Leaning from heaven’s gate
Funeral services were held at 2
pm Sunday in the Henninger-
Allen funeral home chapel in Enid
The Rev J A Cox officiated assist-
ed by Rev Ralph Hooper Burial
was in the Enid cemetery a

The fourth quarterly conference
of the Timberlake and Helena Meth-
odist churches was held at the Hel-
ena church Wednesday night with
a candle light Communion service
Mrs Irene' Metcalf and Mrs Hom-
er Wells called on Mrs Sadie Castle
at Helena Monday afternoon
Mr and Mrs Leo Hess and chil-
dren of Wichita were Sunday din-
ner guests of Leo’s parents Mr and
Mrs Geo Hess and Mrs Bea Brad-
ley Mrs Bea Bradley ia convalescing
at the home of Mr and Mrs Geo
Hess She had been patient at the
Masonic hospital in Cherokee for
eight months -
Robert Wells student at the Uni-
versity of Oklahoma Norman spent
the week end with his parents Mr
