Collects Specimens of Air
The instrument used by a French
scientist for collecting specimens of
air at high altitudes with the aid of
sounding balloons consists of a very
perfect vacuum tube with a finely
drawn out end Either the rise of
the mercury In the barometer corre-
sponding with a previously deter-
mined altitude or the clockwork of
the meteorograph forms an electric
contact causing a little hammer to
fall and break the end of the tube
Air then rushes in whereupon another
electric contact brought about by the
same means causes the current of a
email accumulator to beat the plat-
inum Wire wound around the capillary
tube to'a red heat This fuses tbe
glass and again closes the end of
the vacuum tube thus entrapping the
air

Thinking voters in both parties
are becoming more and more inde-
pendent especially in state and lo-

The people must elect a Governor

John Fields is Buch a man He ban

When he criticises the present
state administration it is criticism
against state officers who sold out
tbe voters of their party and not
against the party itself
