CAPTAIN DONAHUE ARRIVES
ON SHORT LEAVE OF ABSENCE
' Captain L E Donahue of the 111th
ammunition train stationed at Camp
Bowie near Ft Worth Texas came
in Tuesday for a short visit with his
mother Mrs H L Donahue and
grandmother Mrs James Tomlinson
Capt Donahue is looking well and
says that all the boys in his company
whose homes are in Okfuskee county
are well except Arthur Kinslow who
is in the hospital suffering from
paralysis of the jaw Kinslow will
probably be granted a discharge in a
short time
Captain Donahue only has a short
leave of absence and will return to
Camp Bowie the last of the week
WORK ON TEST WELL
TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED
which will cost you $412 in December
and January The price on these
stamps will increase lc each ' month
thereafter during the calendar year
19X8 You can buy 20 of these stamps
now for $8240 and fhe end of five
years you can realize $100 on them
or in other words you will receive
$1716 iterest which is at the rate of
4 per cent compound
The Thrift stamps bear no interest
and may be bought for 25 cents each
However when the purchaser has ac-
cumulated 16 Thrift stamps representing-a
total of $4 they may pay the
difference of a few cents and exchange
the Thrift stamps for a war-savings
certificate stamp and finally get the
amount to where they can begin to
realize interest on it
These stamps went on sale through-
out the United States on December 3
and it is proposed to sell during De-
cember 1917 and the calendar year
1918 stamps to the amount of $2000-
000000 par value and to accomplish
this it will be necessary to sell stamps
sufficient to average $1660for each
man woman and child in the United
States
This provision of the' government
makes it possible for every one to do
his bit as this investment is within
the reach of all and when a material
loan is made the government is allow-
ing a very lenient rate of interest In
other words this move does away with
the last vestige of excuse anvone could
possibly put forth for failing to do
his share in helping win the war Go
to the postoffice and have the proposi-
tion explained thoroughly to you One
of those large new green crispv-business-like
appearing war stamps is
worth the price Uncle Sam is asking
’you to loan him not to mention your
money back with interest

"The use ot baking powder breads made of corn and other coarse flours instead of
patent wheat flour is recommended by the Conservation Division of the Food
Administration The wheat needed for export is thus conserved and at the same
time healthful food for our own people is provided The circulation of recipes pro

Dreaded Disease not to Be Lost Sight
of in Great Press of National
Affairs'
It looks like Oklahoma is going to
raise in a jiffy the $50000 fund by the
use of which tuberculosis is to be driv-T
en out of the state Marvelous activ-
ity indefatigable energy appealing
sympathy have been manifested by
many of the busiest people in the com-
monwealth Community campaigns are
being waged and in process of prep-
aration and hundreds of prominent
individuals are devoting their entire
time to the work of selling Red Cross
Seals in large quantities For from
the sale of these seals the fund is to
come
This community is expected to en-
gage in this war upon the world’s
greatest enemy with enthusiasm equal
to that apparent elsewhere Scarcely
a person in this entire district but can
participate because a Red Qross Seal
costs only a penny Business houses
can use them with pleasing results
upon their mail matter and even upon
the parcels which are wrapped and
passed over the counter Households
can place them upon Christmas pack-
ages and mail and thereby give addi-
tional beauty and sentiment to gifts
and communications Children of the
schools can sell them and ‘delight in
the labor of it
Every man woman and child in Ok-
lahoma should use Red Cross Seals on
everything to which they will stick
and be attractive ' The sale campaign
will begin in deep earnest Sunday De-
cember 2 at which time ministers of
all denominations throughout the state
are expected to preach the doctrine of
health and urge upon their congrega-
tions participation in this killing drive
against tuberculosis Every day there-
after until Christmas will be a day of
activity of work of battle against the
disease — and when Christmas comes
Oklahoma will have gone “over the
top” with a sale of millions of Red
Cross Christmas Seals
