SENATOR OWEN’S REPLY
REGARDING SEEDWHEA
Hon T J Eldredge
Arnett Oklahoma
I am in receipt of your letter o!'
the 13lh instant I have been mak-
ing every effort to render assistance
to the farmers of the Northwest sec
tion of Oklahoma Have had the
matter up with the Secretary of
Agriculture and have undertaken
to get the Commissioner of Indian
Affairs to make additional deposits
of Indian funds in the hanks of that
section so as to assist the banks in
taking care of credits for the pur-
chase of seed wheat
It is impossible to get legislative
relief directly Upon further con-
sideration yoij will realize the dif-
ficulty of the situation The op-
ponents to such legislation argue
that if we are going to give relief
of this character to one section of
the country we will have to give it
to all and that the Treasury could
not stand the large appropriation
which would be required Some-
time ago Pendeavored to get relief
for a drough stricken section of Ok-
lahoma but was wholly unsuccess-
ful Very respectfully

Some men have said that business
can endure without advertising So
can a gas engine endure without
gasoline and a locomotive without
coal but they will not move until
gasoline or coal are put into the
feed tank and the mode of operation
set in motion And so will a man’s
business stand still unless the fuel
of progress are used Businessmen
who are against advertising are
against themselves When a man
says his business can get along with-
out adveitising he is trying to “kid”
himself into believing bis own tale
f there were but one merchant in
Arnett he would make more money-
if he advertised Suppose this
merchant had a department store

couldn’t afford it Ilow would Mrs
Jones know when he a fine

Smith know about that nice line of
