UNIVERSITY NEEDS
MORE BUILDINGS
Norman Okla Dec 26 — (Spe-
cial) t— -Almost two thousand stud-
ents at the University of Oklahoma
are cramped for room this year and
will be more so in the future unless
the legislature which convenes shortly
provides funds for two or more new
buildings
Two-thirds of the departments and
schools' are working in space much
too small for the most efficient ac-
complishment of their labors An
auditorium including standing room
serves only one-fourth the student
body at one time
Irreplaceable books costing $60-
000 are housed in a library building
costing not nearly so much Besides
the auditorium and the library which
contains study room for only 800
students two departments very im-
portant to the state at large the Ex-
tension division and the Oklahoma
Geological Survey are housed in this
non-fireproof structure because there
is no better place for them on the
campus
The two recent structures on the
campus provide sufficient vroom for
the school of law and the department
of chemistry but lack of funds has
prevented complete equipment in the
latter As a result the school of
pharmacy must remain in the an-
cient Science Hall taking up room
needed for other departments
Four hundred attendants of the
school of education and a similar
number in the school of commerce
and industry are crowded in a few
rooms The geology department is
lacking in rooms and equipment in its
work of aiding In adding to the de-
velopment of the natural resources
of the state
Out in four frame structures at the
corner of the campus are the depart-
ments of domestic science and domes

With all this lack of space and

in efficiency of the University as a
servant of the people is that more
money is needed for support and
maintenance At lease fifty classes
are much over the size for proper
instruction and more teachers should
be provided Many new courses
should be arranged to make the Uni-

pay more salaries should be prevent-
