PLAN COMFORTS FOR
VETERAN OFG A R
Fifty prominent ph3'sicians of
Los Angeles have volunteered their
services to the G A R and will be
detailed to posts along the line of
inarch when the old soldiers parade
during the encampment next month
Fifteen ambulances will be at the
service of tbe Red Cross while the
parade is iu progress
Because of the advanced age of
the veterans the G A R commit-
tees have:listed more than 500 auto
mobiles donated by private parties
These machines will bear the G A
R emblems upon their sides ancl
will be-placed at the call of any vet-
eran who wishes to go to any part
of the city without charge
To (pencil the thirst of the old
soldiers on parade a lemonade brig
ade Las been organized among the
cadets of- military schools in Los
Angeles Armed with buckets and
cups thboy soldiers will take posts
along -Hie line of march and offer
the veterans refreshments
The Jieadquartei s committee of
theGA R provided today for
the complete -listing of all rooms
for rent in hotels and private
liomes-i The information bureaus
will be placed in the depots and
hotel lobbies of the city More
than 1M) call-boys will be on hand
to escort the veterans free of charge
to their rooms No tipping will he
allowed
In conjunction with these prepa-
rations the Woman’s Relief corps
is busy gathering children to march
ahead '-'of 'the soldiers and strew
flowers and fruit in their path

In the parade Df Olymphic heroes
which 'thrilled Broadway a few days
ago there rode a lad of twenty who
is champion pistol shot of the world
and who was the ' only member of
the American Olymphic team to
bring home three gold medals A
little over twtt years ago Alfred P
Lane began “shooting at a mark” in
the cellar of his father’s house in
New York City When the boy
marksman started to use a 38 revol-
ver instead of a 22 rifle he was
graduated from- his -underground
galley to a nearb3r revolver club
Stimulated by the rivalry of fellow
shooters 3’oung Lane made such
rapid strides in his industrious prac-
tice that he was soon in the “boy
wonder” class While still in the
knee pants of his teens Lane held
three world’s pistol and revolver rec-
ords and was champion indoor pis-
tol shot of the United States Revol-
ver Association His beating the
world’s crack shots in the pistol and
revolver competitions at Stockholm
is now a bright page in the history
of American marksmanship To
get thus far in less than two and
one half years is rather remarkable
even for an American boy — which
is reason enough' for the interest
evidenced by Broadway in this
peaceable “gun man” as he rode in
a law abiding- taxicab down the
Great White Way
