H V & P RAILROAD
ARE MAKING GOOD
i ‘ - ' S
According to tho Albuquerque
Morning Journal of October 25 and
Nov 3 the' Mountain Valley and
Plains Railroad is making good
The following' special' dispatches to
the Morning Journal from Cimar-
ron and Springer N M will give
the people of Oklahoma some idea
' of what is being done r' ' - ’
Springer N‘ M Oct 24 Alter
many months of preliminary plan-
ning it is now understood here that
v the Mountain Valley and Plains
railroad company is rapidly getting
affairs into shape to begin construc-
tion of a new road which will cross
Northern New Mexico for almost
its whole width and which when
completed will open up a new rout
' to the Pacific coast through a sec-
tion of the southwest which has
long needed only railroad facilities
to develop remarkably ' It is be-
lieved that the building of this pro-
jected line will do wonders in de-
' veloping the resources of northern
New Mexico Springer it is un-
der stood is to be one of the roost
important terminal points on the
new line
Just what interests are backing
the new project is not definitely
known But that it is amply capi-
talized and has big railroad men in
the background there is no doubt
Cimarron N M Nov 14 — Geo
H Lawrence R II Lawrence and
R E Canon of Denver arrived in
Cimarron Thursdav night 'and lert
Friday morning for Ponil Park to
make a preliminary survey for an
extension of the Cimarron and
Northern into the Rock Castle
country It is' presumed that the
connection will connect with the
Denver & Rio Grande railroad at
some point but it is not known at
present just where
l'be following is a special to the
Morning Journal from Sacramento
Cal bearing on the activities of the
companies in that state
WILL INCORPORATE UNDER
t LAWS OF CALIFORNIA
Sacramento Cal Oct 25 — Dec
larations of ' intentions to build a
railroad from Springer N M to
San Francisco was contained in a
letter received by Secretarv of State
Curry today from II S Wanamak-
er Secretary of the Mountain Val-
ley and Plains ?ilroad company
Mr Wanamaker asked for infor-
mation as to the incorporation laws
of this state pointing out tht the
railroad would cross four states and
that the financing company wanted
its charter to be as simple as was
compatible with the laws of those
states ' ‘
The company has its headquar-
ters at Amstad Union County
New Mexico
STATE HAS NOPER-
MANENT CAPITAL
As a result of the decision of the
state supreme court Tuesday by
which the federal enabling act was
declared void and at the same time
the right of the voters of the state
to move the capital location was
upheld Oklahoma is now without a
permanently located capital - Just
what the next move will be has not
been decided upon but it is likely
a special session of the state legis-
lature will be called to enact a law
ermanently locating the state
capital When this will be done
if at all has not been settled Gov-
ernor Haskell beld several confer-
ences with state officials and lead-
ing attorneys in Oklahom City
last night but so far as is known
no definite conclusions were reach-
ed In a letter addressed to the
public yesterday the governor de-
clared that he wanted to study the
situation further and assured the
people of the state that he would
act with decision and with such
promptness as he felt he was justi-
fied in exercising after making
sure of his position The terms of
of office of the present legislators
expire November 18 The gover-
nor is empowered to convoke the
legislature at any time but there is
a question as to whether or not the
present msmbers could be assem-
bled to act upon this now all-important
question before their terms of
office expire The state canvassing
board has not completed its count
of the ballots and the new set of
law-makers will not be officially de-
clared elected for several days
The state board is also likely to be
hampered by contests in various
counties where election officials are
squabbling and the vote counting
is being delayed These delays
may even make it impossible to
determine who has been elected to
fill she vacancies in cases of close
contests the polls Altogether the
affair is very much complicated and
Governor Haskell is forced to pro-
ceed slowly

The value of a good local news-
paper is much more than many peo-
ple eeem to think And the way to
make it good is to patronize it pay
for it and furnish it with ads news
and items such as the public want
to know Bring them on and
“faith we’ll print ’em” The press
is a mighty power in helping to
carry on the business and progress
of our country The fact is the
press has always been influential
even in the Savior’s day If you
don’t believe it read Mark 2: 4 and
see for yourself
R07AL NEIGHBORS
SURPRISE WOODUEN
Last Saturday night when the
members of Ralston Camp No
10746 M W A of Arnett were
in the midst of initiating a candi-
date into the mysteries of that or-
der a noise was heard in the hall
way The head Council ordered an
investigation which resulted in the
finding of about a half a hundred
ladies in the hall they were Royal
Neighbors and the wives of mem-
bers of Ralston Camp and all car-
ried baskets which were well filled
with good things to eat 1
Glad to be disturbed in that way
and not wishing to run the risk of
the ladies Changing their minds the
lodge was closed and they were in-
vited into the lodge room at once
where they spread an elegant lunch
which was 'greatly appreciated by
all present
Time slipped by so fast that it
was in ths wee small hours of the
morning before those present hard-
ly realized it
On account of the lateness of the
hour the Woodmen were compelled
to postpone the initiation of the
candidate and all went home wish-
ing that the ladies would disturb
their meeting in the same way ma-
ny times in the future
Pay as you go This is golden
advice that will keep the business
world moving the wheels of indus-
try from rusting out and the mou
ey will surely come back to you It
should' not be' forgotten' that the
earth is round Stand the people
all in line and they will reach
around the world the last touching
the first Now pay your neighbor
on your right the dollar you owe
him and he will pay his neighbor
on the right and eo on the dollai
will travel until it will come around
again to your hand from your
neighbor on the left Try it We
make no charge for this receipt for
the hard times
Disappointed must be the man
1 who is always expecting praise
