exhausted itself a fine rain set in and
continued most of the night and all

ground and putting a smile on every-
body’s face
It is hard to tell just how much
the wheat has been damaged by the
dry spell but it is not believed to be
to any great extent except that
which was sowed early

Fine Stock s
- One of the best indications that
the farmers of this part of Oklaho-
ma are awakening to the advantages
of raising pure bred live stock is J C
Enfield’s sale of a part of his herd of
Poland China hogs Mr Enfield has
for a number of years been interested
in raising a good grade of Poland
Chinas He started out by securing
a good boar and a few brood sows all
registered and now has a good sized
bunch of hogs registered or eligible
to register
His sale of a large number of the
increase on November 3rd at his fine
country home eight miles north and
one mile east of town should attract
every fancier of fine hogs He will
also include a few horses in the sale
Another successful farmer who is
becoming interested in good hogs is
O M VanOsdale He has a bunch
of about a liyndred fine Ilampshires
all marked the same and they are
certainly money makers

The Real Live Merchant
The advertising merchant is the
salt of the earth He is one of the
best boosters any town has He sends
his messages out into the highways
and byways to city residences and
rural home and in response thereto
the people flock to his town and to
his store The great secret of the
success of cities as well as of individ-
ual stores is to get people to visit
them The advertising merchant
works incessantly to get people Jto
his store They come Of course
they come And when they come
they spend money in other places be-
sides the store whose advertisement
prompted them to come to or down
town The man or woman who re-
sponds to a clothing or dry goods ad-
vertisement very often buys a bill of
furniture groceries' hardware or
other of the many lines of merchan-
dise while in the city Thus the ad-
vertising helps others as well as him-
self It is true that he gets the first
call for the business which he has
created but he does not get it all
Everybody is benefited directly or
indirectly and the whole city is in-
debted to the advertising merchant
The non-advertising merchant may
be just as good a citizen may have
j ust as good a store and may treat
his customers just as good but lie
doesn’t go out in the wide world and
drag in business He sells to the pe
pie who happen into ills store and
many of these have been attracted to
town or down town by his advertis-
ing competitor But he does not do
as much business nor does he make
as much money as he would if begot
into the advertising game himself
Imagttie a city whose merchants all
refused to advertise and who relied
upon chance business and personal
acquaintances for for customers This
