Mrs James R Jordan of 700
South Elm street in the Third
ward was run over by a Katy
switch engine at 7:30 yesterday
morning and instantly killed '
She had just left her home and
' was on her way to her dress-
- making rooms in the Schreiner
building A path - runs
diagonally from B street across
the Choctaw tracks about 100
yards west of the depot and she
followed this as was her custom
The switch engine Frank Brun
engineer and Roy Griggs fire-
man had just started down the
curved track from the Choctaw
to the Katy running southeast
as she came along the path up
the embankment A heavy
freight train was coming in at
the same moment on the next
track and its noise evidently
drowned that of the switch
engine which was hot running
at a high rate of speed Mrs
Jordan stepped on the track
almost directly in front of the
engine and the first the crew
knew of her presence was when
they heard her agonized scream
as she went down before the
wheels The footboard of the
engine knocked her down and
the pony truck and one pair of
driying wheels passed directly
across her body When she was
taken out from between the
drivers she was dead Deceased
was the wife of James R Jordan
employed in the Metropolitan
barber shop She was the
daughter of Mr and Mrs John
