Joining the church's
children for a cooperative
school were youngsters
from lhe Church of the
Servant, United Methodist,
and All Souls’ Episcopal
Church.
The Episcopal Church,
with 14 orders of nuns and
10 orders of monks, is
unique is Protestantism.
Sister Priscilla and Sis-
ter Laura teach at Betha-
ny School, a boarding
school in Glendale, and in
a ghetto mission school in
Cincinnati.
They said they find
many Episcopalians are
unaware of the existence
of Episcopal nuns. Sister
Laura said the first orders
begain in the United States
in the middle 1800's.
“We
sisters
this is
This is
ing a Christian life.”
The sisters in the Com-
munity of the Transfigur-
ation wear dark blue hab-
its with knotted rope belts,
a hanging crucifix, and a
one-piece veil fastened
with a blue Jerusalem
cross.
Sister Laura said the or-
der’s foundress. Mother
Eva Mary, traveled to the
Holy Land to decide on de-
signs for the order’s habit.
Sister Isaura said the sis-
ters' routine is to get up at
6 a.m., go to chapel for
don't worry about the
mess."
The Rev. Paul Kendall,
rector at the Chu
Resurrection, sail
dren “are kept so con-
structively busy, they
can’t wait to come back
the next day."
'Father Kendall termed
the cooperative school
“The most marvelous
thing we've had." He said
the venture also has creat-
ed a new bond of friend-
ship between his church
and the United Methodist
church. “Without them, we
couldn't have done this at
all.”
The Rev. Norman
Neaves, minister of the
Church of the Servant,
said the school has been
“an excellent ecumenical
experience.” He said he
hopes the project will
serve as a prelude to more
cooperative efforts be-
tween the two churches.
