County Surveyor Emmett Ross
has purchased the Cartwright
property and will soon become a
resident of Cordell.
E A. Dekinder and family
have moved to Frederick, where
he has secured a position in a
printing office.
The town of Breathwaite on
the Orient has been established
and a number of lots sold. When
will suckers quit running?
H. W. Banister is in town vi*
iting his brother-in-law. H. O.
Dutton and family. He is also
selling lots in an addition to
Enid.
Ernest Lutz left Sunday for
Amarillo to jiin his father who
is scouting around West Texas
in search of health and is report*
ed that be is improving.
J. B. Warner of Eaid was in
town a couple of days this week.
Mr. Warner will be remembered
as the genial manager of Cox &
Co.'s store while here.
District court has been an
nounced to convene here Octo
ber 29th. But the unsett'ed
condition of affairs in the new
state make courts as well as ma-
ny other things very uncertain.
Dr. J. H Hirms and family
leave today for Whitewater, K tr-
sas, t<> a'tend a family reunion
of Mr*. Harms' relatives. They
will be absent a couple of weeks
visiting relatives and taking a
well earned vacation.
Bob Duncan, who is doing the
carpenter work on the new jiil,
had the misfortune to miss a
stick of timber he was working
on and struck his foot, cutting!
quite a bad gash. He is taking
a lay off and caring for that foot.
W. I. Fisher has moved his
stock of furniture into the Wag-
ner building, west side of the
square. His stock shows up
much handsomer than in the old
room. He will occupy a part of
the up stairs as his undertaking,
rooms.
Barrett has rented the J. W. |
Smith building and will move his
ice cream parlor there about
next Tuesday He will have i
beautiful and 'convenient place,
when he gets fixed up. Icecream
wiil be coldei and lemonade
sweeter at the new place. Call
and see if this is not true.

The Custer County Republican
says: "A 'hello" girl in a near
by town who could not wake up
to get,to the office in time bought
an alarm clock. Wfopn it went
off the first time she rolled over
and said in her usual sweet voice,
though asleep, "Line's busy, call
again " This sounds very much
like Cordell.
Enoch Montgomery had bills
printed Wednesday morning an
nouncing a sale at hi* farm south-
west of Cloud Chief on Fiiday,
October 18th. He has several
head of horses and an excellent
span of mules, three cows and a
full and complete line of farming
implements which he will sell.
His terms are those usually of-
fered.
J. E. Prater met with an acci-
dent Monday evening which
nearly proved fatal from the
loss of blood. He in some way
became tangled up with the
rocker with which they cut sau-
sage meat and when rescued he
bad his wrist badly cut. He
was taken to Bungardt's office
who stopped the flow of b'ood
and fixed him up. The chances
of a stiff wrist j tint are very
good. 1

The Cosmopolitan Club held
its first meeting of the year at
the hjtne of Mrs. J. C. Caldwell
last Friday afternoon. Several
ne** members were elected with
initiation deferred.
Mrs. MariaF.Neufeld, living 5
miles north and one mile west of
Korn, will have a public sale on
Tuesday, October 15th. One
heifer, three fat hogs, five shoats
100 chickens and household fur-
niture will be offered for sale.

sale for R. S. Leslie at the B. K.
Barnett farm, three mi'es west
of Dill, on Wednesday, October
16, at which he offers four head
of horses and colts, two mules,
three cows, six yearling and
three spring calves and a good
line of farm implements. Terms
are 12 months at 12 per cent and
a discount of 5 per cent for cash.
I Team Drowns.
Peter Ratzlaff, who lives' near
Korn, had the misfortune to have
two horses drowned, while at-
tempting to cross a creek near
Shelly after the heavy rain
storm, Tuesday morning. The
creek waa high and the bridge
had gone out, but Ratzlaff thought
the water was running oyer the
bridge, so he drove oat and the
team went down. His cousin
was with him and the two men
swam to shore and the horses
were drowned. The wagpn box
was found two miles down stream
— Custer County Republican.
