Importance of Composition in
Otr Schools.
Kind friends and fellow teachers,
Althbuge humble is my mission,
A simple thought or two, I have
On the subject of compoeltioo.
The Importance of composition
In the school Is very great,
And when neglected our life* burden
Is like a mighty weight.
When a child 1 went tosehool
As other children do.
1 learned to read and write and spell
And a Utt'e mischief too.
The teacher of that day and sge
Thought their work done well,
If they only cougbt the children
To read and write and spell.
The teacher should do better now
As should the teachers then,
And teach the child to use the mind
As well as use the pen.
Train the child the way.lt should go
Is a maxim full of wit,
"And when it is old" we're ever sure
"It will oever depart from it."
Those who studdy compoeltioo,
Vast the ladder of fame ascend,
But those by whom neglected
Their time in darkness spend.
Our ability la composition
Is a picture of the mind.
It shows the world our usefulness,
In any business line.
Composition Is the only means
By which we all may know
The feelings and the sentiments
That in other minds do grow.
Although we may have language,
Although we may have speech,
If we lack In compoeltioo
Other minds we never reach.
The art of composition
Is the all Important link;
It Jolnsone mind to others,
To think as others think.
It traine the mind to think Itself,
One thought known to be our own
Is worth a thousand glesned
From fields by other* sown.
Gf all the ways to train the mlud
The oom position laths best.
It brings the mind to usefulness
Far greater than all the rest.
Then teach the child oompoeition,
Iu mind the facta will hoard.
Tbco, and only then 'tis true,
"The pen is mightier than the
