BRIEF 8UMMARY OF HAPPENINGS
FROM LAND OF THE
KAISER.
NOTES FROM GERMAN EMPIRE
Happy, bright, alert—vigorous and |
Ylvacious—a good clear skin; a nat- i
ural, rosy complexion and freedom |
from illness are assured only by clean,
Healthy blood. If only every woman !
and likewise every man could realize
the wonders of drinking phosphated
hot water each morning, what a grat-
ifying change would take place.
Instead of the thousands of sickly,
anaemic-looking men, women and
girls with pasty or muddy complex-
ions; instead of the multitudes of
"nerve wrecks," "rundowns," "brain
fags" and pessimists we should see a
virile, optimistic throng of rosy-
cheeked people everywhere.
An inside bath is had by drinking,

The family of August Bebel. the fa-
mous Socialist leader who died in 1913,
is doomed to extermination through
the death of his only grandson, which
has Just accurred at Jena. This young
man, who was the son of Bebel's
daughter, an only child, was born at
Zurich and was greatly beloved by Be-
bel. Soon after the outbreak of the
war he had to go into the army
through the mobilization of the Swiss
troops. He was not able to stand the
hardships of the service, however, and
soon developed symptoms of consump-

have a pallid, sallow complexion and
who are constipated very often, are
urged to obtain a quarter pound of
limestone phosphate from any drug-
gist or at the store which will cost
but a trille but is sufficient to demon-
strate the quick and remarkable
change in both health and appearance
awaiting those who practice internal
sanitation. We must remember that
inside cleanliness is more important
than outside, because the skin does
not absorb impurities to contaminate
the blood, while the pores in the thir-

Say Cardui Built Up System When
Other Mediciner, Failed. Believes
It Saved Her Life.
Hendersonvllle, N. C.—Mrs. M. A.
ftedmon, of R. F. D. 1, this place,
writes: "I wish to state that before
having taken Cardui, my condition of
health was all run-down, and had been
that way ever since my marriage two
years ago last May. I only weighed
107 pounds. My average weight is
135 pounds. I had such awful pains
at times I could hardly go... I had
severe pains In my back and abdomen
and could scarcely do my work.,
could not lift anything heavy.
"In November, 1913, I began taking
Cardui. I thought I would give It a
trial though my family doctor, —
had set the date for an examination
of me... I saw my improvement after
taking the first bottle... I am getting
fat and well, and in March this year
I weighed 128 pounds... Your Cardui
tonic built up my system when all
other medicines failed. I feel and look
like a different person... I am still..
praising it to my friends,... for 1 can
truly say I believe it saved my life,
My relief from all pain has been per
manent."
If you are run-down in health and
need a tonic, take Cardui, the woman's
tonic. It will help you.

will be regarded as Germans and

These men will be enrolled In the
army, but will not be sent to the front.
They will be put to work in offices so
as to release men of the landsturm,
who will thus be able to take their
places in the fighting line. It is said
that there are about 30,000 foreigners

Submarines of the allies are follow-
ing the practice abandoned by the
Austro-Germans of attacking unarmed
passenger ships without warning, ac-
cording to an announcement in Ber-

that a hostile submarine fired torpe-
does, without the slightest warning,
at the Austrian passenger Bteamer
Daniel Erno, February 13, and at the
Austrian steamer Zagreb, February 28,

added that these steamers, like all
Austro-Hungarlan merchantmen, were
unarmed, and escaped only by skill-
ful maneuvering.

German newspapers often attack the
women because, after a year and a
half of constant warfare, during which
they have lost husbands, brothers and
, while themselves forced to en-
dure untold hardships, they are show-
ing signs of what is termed weak-
ness. "It is most humiliating," says
the Muenchener Neueste Nachrlchten,
"to see that, after 18 months of war,
a very large part of our women have
not yet learned to understand what
war-time conditions mean."

Lad of Seven Saves Sister's Life.
The presence of mind of Archie

The pronunciation of Beaumont, one
of the villages captured by the Ger-

presents, at any rate so far as the

In the eighteenth century the average

average Englishman for once was
right, and was merely reviving the
original French pronunciation, sur-

which we correctly rhyme with 'duty.'

WISE HOSTESS
Won Her Guests to Postum.
"Three great coffee drinkers were
my old school friend and her two
daughters.
They were always complaining and
taking medicine. I determined to give
them Postum instead of coffee when
they visited me, St) without saying
anything to them about it, I made a
big pot of Postum the first morning.
Before the meal was half over,
each one passed up her cup to be re-
tilled, remarking how fine the 'cofTee'
was. The mother asked for a third
cup and inquired as to the brand of
coffee I used. I didn't answer her
question just then, for I heard her say
a while before that she didn't like Pos-
tum unless it was more than half
coffee.
"After breakfast I told her that the
'coffee' she liked so well at breakfast
was pure Postum, and the reason she
liked It was because It was properly
made.
"I have been brought up from a
nervous, wretched Invalid, to a fine
condition of physical health by leav-
ing oft coffee and using Postum.
"I am doing all I can to help the
world from coffee slavery to Postum
freedom, and have earned the grati-
tude of many, many friends." Name
given by Postum Co., Battle Creek,
Mich.
Postum comes in two forms:
Postum Cereal—the original form-
must be well boiled. 15c and 25c
pkgs.
Instant Postum—a soluble powder-
dissolves quickly in a cup of hot wa-
ter, and, with cream and sugar, makes
a delicious beverage instantly. 30c
and 50c tins.
Both forms are equally delicious and
cost about the same per cup.
"There's a Rea«on" for Postum.
