On Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the
home of the bride's aunt 11 miles
southwest of Woodward occurcd
the marriage of Rev. Virgil Hay-
es of Gate to Miss Elsie Park-
hurst, of Winficld, Kansas. The
groom is the pastor of the M. E.
church here. He is a higflily
cultured young man and has
shown eqceptional ability in his
chosen profession. He was a
former student of the Methodist
College at Winfield, at which
place he became acquainted with
his wife who has also been a
student at that place. They re-
turned to Gate last week and will
make their home at the M. E.
parsonage.
The Star joins thiir many
friends in wishing them a long
and happy journey through life.

ALLIES WILL STAND
OR EALL TOGETHER
London Sept. 5.—France, Rus-
sia and Great Britian today sign-
ed an agreement that none of the
three would make peace without
the consent of all three Nations.
Following is the text of the
protocol signed today by repre-
sentatives of Great Britian, Rus-
sia and Franee.
"The undersigned, duly auth-
orized by their respective gov-
ernment?, hereby delare as fol-
lows:
The British, French and Rus-
sian Governments mutually en-
gage not to conclude peace sep-
arately during the present war.
The three governments agree
that when the terms of. peace
come to be discussed no one of
the allies will demand conditions
of peace without the previous
agreement of the other allies.
In faith whereof the under-
signed have signed this declara-
tion and have affixed thereto
their seals.
Done at London, in triplicate,
this 5th day of September, 1914.

Mrs. Stella Alkire of Knowles
was visiting her sister, Mrs.
John Card Thursday.
John Despain and family and
Miss Anna Berends took in the
Woodward fair Thursday.
William Brown and Ottolee
Franklin were married Tuesday
evening at 6 o'clock at the
groom's father, M. C. Brown,
southwest of town, Rev. Virgil
Hayes of Gate officiating. Only
the immediate relatives and a
few friends winessed the cere-
mony. These young* people are
well known and highly respected
in this commuity, and the Star
joins their many friends in wish-
ing them a long and happy life.
ENTERTAINMENT
Mr. J. Frank Fouche a noted
entertainer will appear at the
High School Auditorium, next
Saturday night and give a com-
plete entertainment which will
| he well worth seeing. The Gate
I Vallev band have secured the
services of Mr. Fouche at a
reaso .able figure and will en-
deavor to make a small profit
above their expenses, in order
to keep up their good work for
our town. Everyone should turn
out and show their appreciation
of the good work our band has
done as you will receive your
moneys worth anyhow. Admis-
sion 25c and 35c.
Mrs. Neal Briggs, of Mocane
was in Gate Wednesday having
dental work done.
Miss Eva Brown who has been
visiting relatives in Beaver coun-
ty for the past month left tor her
home at Miami this week.
Messrs Elliott and Foresman,
grain dealers here went to Wood-
ward Wednesday to attend the
Grain Dealers meeting at that
place.
Paul Starn, Fred Harvey, Em
erv Newby and Miss Grace
Smith left last week for Wichita
where they will attend the
Friends University this winter.

Lawrence Friends Academy
opened Monday Sept. 7th with
an enrollment of more than
twenty pupils and others are
