BURGLARS WORK FOR TWO HOURS
SI 500 In The Safe-
Guthrie, Ok., March 30. —The State
bank at Bison was robbed Thursday
morning: and the Hennessey Clipper
j,'jives the following account in this
weeks paper:
At an early hour this morning rob-
bers entered 'he State bank at Bison,
and after trying in vain for eleven
times with rjitro-glycerine to blow
open the safe, they pave up the at-
einpt. They blew off tue outside
ii >or, but could not ^et into the vault.
Ti ere no clew iu their identity.
It w as about 1:30 when the cashier,
Jess-e Soritchfield, heard the first ex-
plosion. He surmised the robbers,
but of course did uot venture out.
The robbers worked for two hours
with their explosive before giving up
the attempt.
As a result of the explosion the of-
fice fixtures are in a demolished con-
dition, the windows are broken and
spotted with daubs of mud thrown by
tiie explosion and the room filled with
the odor of glycerine. The safe,
which is .burglar proof, is badly
damaged, and a few small coins were
found lying outside. There was
something less than $1,500 in the safe,
and it is not thought any of this was
secured.
Sheriff Kershaw of Enid arrived at
Bison this morning, but cDuld get no
clue. The description of a stranger
seen in town yesterday, carrying a
grip, was given, but it is not Known
if this will give any clew.

Bob Mallen's Cat
The Editor of the Democrat has
a couple of venerable friends in town
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Jordan. We take
that back. Mrs. Jordan inttcad of
being venerable is as young and vig-
orous as she was 50 years ago, We
had overlooked the fact when we lim-
bered up to write the article.
Some days ago our venerable friend
Jordan, who, as everybody knows, is
in the real estate business, had a cus-
tomer, a most polite, cleanly and go«d
looking man, who wanted some lots
in the west end. Mr. Jordan was teo
busy to take the stranger out himself,
and asked Mrs. Jordan to drive him
out ami show him the property. In
the meantime Bob Mailer found an 18-
pound tom cat which had fallen in a
combat some weeks previously and
which had not been embalmed like the
body of John Wilkes Baeth. With a
dire purpose and with malice afore-
thought, he deposited it under the seat
of Mrs. Jordan's buggy. It was in
that advanced stage of decay that it
emitted dire and sinister odors. As
results showed it was a mean stinking
trick. After Mrs. Jordan got back,
she told Mr. Jordan that their custom-
er was a nice gentleman but that he
smelled awful bad. Later, the gentle-
man, who seems to have taken a great
liking to Mrs. Jordan, complimented
Mr. Jordan on possessing so business-
like and intelligent a wife and deli-
cately suggested that if a certain bad
smell about the buggy was corrected,
it would render her irresistable, and
suggested a pint of carbolic acid and
a barrel of lime. Bro. Jordan said he
would look into it, but he sold the
property. B«b Mallen has emigrated
o Alaska.
