It is now being whispered that the
governor of this unfortunate state
will refuse to issue li s proclamation
calling an election on the Taylor la*.
He may 'lawfully refuse, the law be-
ing voted on at ithe next general
election. In the meantime, after it
has been ordered referred by tbf
proper number of petitioners, it is in-
operative. And petitions signed by
48,000 good and true Oklahoma citi
zens have been Hied wMh the go\er
nor, an excess of 30,000 more than
the law required.
The wily politicians, it is said
think they have found a way out of
ithe dilemma their greed and corrup-
tion brought them to. It is to
a special session of the ieglslatur.
next winter, at a cost of hundreds ol
thousands of dollars, to undo what
the seven-milllon-dollarsc legislature
did.
This may be politics, but it lacks
ft great deal of being patriotism, good
citizenship or even ordinary honesty.
Even if the legislature is convened
in extra session, for the purpose of
weeding out the objectionable Tea
tures of the election law, the people
will yet understand the game. An
extra session of the legislature would
cost the state hundreds of thousands
ot dollars—probably millions. And
a get of legislators that can't enact
a law fair and honest enough to stand
a single year should never be per-
mitted «to serve the people.—Tulsa

Life is a game we play
With cards that are out of our
choosing.
Grimly intent, or gay,
Winning a hand, or losing;
Fate is the dealer, old,
Who has neither mercy nor feel-
ing—
Cautious, or over-bold,
We must abide by the dealing.
Sometimes the trumps are hearts.
And sometimes the diamonds rule
us;
Clmi s leave their aching smarts,
Spades at the end may fool us;
But in the game of li e
Reckless we are on beginning,
Dager for stress and strife,
lleedtless of losing or winning.
Lt is a game all through
A risk and a chance and a gamble,
Whether we work or woo
Or swagger or lazily shamble;
You, he and I we all
Finger the cards we are playing,
Blunder, or else forestall
Rivals, their chances outweighing

The pe ticoat less walking skirt of
two and one-half yards width proved
highly unsatisfactory during the past
winter season. It catches up the
dust on the heels as no plaited skirt
did, and it wraps about "the knees
and ankles every fourth step, as if
one were encased in a tube. A most
chaini ng modification of this skirt
is one that breaks with a small
group of wide plaits at the middle
of the front and back. A broad, em-
ibroidered girdle binds -the hips in a
straight band, fastening in front with
a slide and one long blunt end of
rhe embroidered stuff that hangs
heavily between the ankles. The
long-waisted corsage is laid in small
flat side plaits, also at the center of
front and back, starting at the em-
broidered band that encircles the
round neck. This gown in linen or
foulard gives the straight effect de-
sired. and yet plenty of room for
