In response to many inquiries
as to what the prospects of our
ticket are we ca« onlv be guided
in our answer from reports reach-
ing our executive committee.
These are meager. But the true
observer can take the history of
the past four years for a safe
guide. We predict the elactioa
of Frank Hamilton and Btnt
Thomas by large majorities, with
Hamilton leading. Bill Stoala-
barger is a sure winner. Lincoln
is safe and Chas. L. Moore
seems to have the best of Milton
Garber. The prairies are afire
against Porter because of his in-
sincerity and trading proclivi-
ties, but his past connections
with leading republicans and the
inability of Kershaw to hold his
party in lino, may let Porter in
again. The McAte« matter
cuts considerable figure. The
exposure made by the Democrat
tended to identify a number of
conscienless fellows with his
public sin and they are in some
sort identified with the candi-
dates on the ticket. That ter-
rible disgrace appalled the sense
of decency of our people and set
them to thinking and it aroused
in them a determination that no
man who defended McAtce after
his exposure is worthy of public
conlidence. We do not care who
this shaft hits. We hope it will
cut to the red. Isenberg's paper,
the Enid Events and certain law-
yers defended McAtee while the
republican press of the county,
with the notable exception of th«
Garber Sentinel, defended his
infamous conduct. McAtee was
a republican and that party aid
ed by a few feather-brained dem-
ocratic lawyers attempted to con-
done for his notorious iuimorah
ty. It is not forgotten and we
do not wish it to be forgotten
We wish to purify the moral at-
mosphere and we wish also to
expel from the ranks of the de-
mocracy and shut out of its coun-
sels every man who was an apol-
ogist for that lecherous scouu
drel.
\S E wish now to say that Mc-
Atee, the lustful, the shameless,
resognizing the incorruptible
characttr of Mr. Hubbell, exer-
cised his deapostic power to ex-
clude him from his court and to
paralyze him in the exercise of
his daties as county attorney
and selected others who were
subservient to his will and who
would obav his base behests.
Those familiar with the history
of the court of thia disfrocked
judge will understand who is
mtant without giving lamts.
The public also know by this
lima who attempted to keep his
name off the docket of the public
court and substitute that of John
Doe.
The circulation of this paper
has now increased to such pr*'
portions that our business me*
recognizc its utility as a medium
of advertising to an extent that
w« ahall in a short time be com
pelled to enlarge or else make it
an all home print. We must ask
the indulgence of our reader* for
the lack of local reading matter
in this 'issue and now promise
them an improvement that will
place the Democrat in a position
ahead of all competitors.
The bond election carried by a
narrow margin. Of those to-
tiag the vote was almost unani-
mous but only genuine taxpayera
are said to have voted. People
are getting tired of voting money
for waterworks and sewers and
having it given away to a few
individuals, ostensibly for rail-
road purposes. It is time to call
a halt.
FOR SALE!
We have a large building at North
Enid for sale. It is 6#x24, substan-
tially built and will make either a
good storeroom or warehouse.
What more right has Chas.
"V . Porter in the democratic party
than the writer. We have
fought the battles valiantly for
our party and he has bartered
witn the heathen roundabout.
What right has he or hi* sup-
porters to dictate to the editor of
this paper what its policy shall
be? We propose to eliminate
from the democracy just such
treacherous trimmers.
—Charley Hunter was here this
week rushing advertising matter for
some of his new towns on the Bos
Line, notably ,Rocky, Roosevelt and
Texawa where lots are for sale. The
dates will be found in another
column. •
